Hello, I'm Kathy! As a competitive pickleball player with a 4.46 rating, I've dedicated over three years to perfecting my game. My journey in sports education stretches over two decades, thanks to my background as a PE teacher. This unique blend of teaching and passion makes me the coach I am today. In our sessions together, I'll guide you through refining your swings, honing your hitting drills, getting that grip just right, and we'll even dink a little back and forth. To wrap things up, we'll dive into some quick drill games to make sure you leave the court feeling more confident than ever. First I will ask you about your strengths and weaknesses and if there’s something in particular that you want to work on. Normally I start almost every lesson with a few points of skinny singles to identify any strengths and weaknesses and what we should work on. From there I will give you a few tips and then run some drills to work on them. Throughout the lesson I will continue to give you tips as I identify ideas to help with your game, and we may adjust the drills but still mainly focusing on one particular skill.

What do coaches say I need to bring to my lesson?

R

Coach Rian

If we’re going to train indoors at the Picklr, all you need to bring are court shoes, and I would also recommend indoor lenses to protect your eyes. For outdoors, make sure you wear weather appropriate attire. In winter it may get cold, but you may also warm up underneath so make sure you can shed a layer. A hat and sunglasses may be helpful, Sunscreen or a light outerwear will help protect you from the sun as well. Tennis our pickleball shoes would be best, but running shoes are ok for occasional use as well. But long term, the rough court surface will wear down your shoe tread.

Good court shoes and eye protection. If you don't have a paddle yet, one will be furnished. I will have water paddles eye protection

What do coaches say about teaching kids and youth?

R

Coach Rian

pickleball coach

If I’m giving a lesson with kids, I focus on having fun, and helping them get a feel for swinging the paddle and hitting the ball. We would focus on interactive games and drills that would help activate their eye hand coordination if they haven’t had experience with racket sports yet.
