About your baseball coach

Hi, I’m Coach James Kemp—a recent NCAA Division I baseball player and team captain at Iona University. I’m coming off my final collegiate season where I broke the Iona all-time RBI record, finishing my career as one of the most productive hitters in program history. Career Highlights: • Iona University All-Time RBI Record Holder – 2025 • Team Captain – 2024–2025 • All-MAAC First Team – 1st Baseman – 2025 • MAAC Player of the Week – March & May 2025 • MAAC All-Academic Team – 2020–2023 • Dean’s List – Iona University After years of competing at the highest level, I’m excited to pass on the knowledge, discipline, and mindset it takes to perform under pressure. Whether I’m working with young kids learning the basics or teenagers looking to level up, I bring intensity, patience, and structure to every session. My lessons focus on strong fundamentals, confident at-bats, defensive footwork, and real-time feedback. Most importantly, I create a positive, focused environment where players can grow, compete, and enjoy the game. Let’s get to work—I'll bring the experience, you bring the hustle.

Youth players
Working with kidsWorking with kids is all about creating a positive first experience with the game. I focus on making baseball fun, simple, and confidence-building. Whether it’s their first swing or their first ground ball, I use clear instruction, patience, and encouragement to help young players feel successful and excited to learn. My lessons combine structure and fun—so kids stay focused while enjoying every minute. I break down fundamentals in a way they can understand, celebrate effort over perfection, and keep energy high throughout. Most importantly, I make sure every player leaves the field feeling proud of what they did and hungry to come back.

Working with teenagersWorking with teenagers is about more than just teaching skills—it's about building trust, respect, and helping them take ownership of their development. As a former Division I athlete and team captain, I know what it takes to connect with young players who are serious about improving but still finding their identity. I focus on structure, accountability, and direct feedback. I won’t sugarcoat things—but I’ll always coach with purpose. My goal is to challenge each athlete, build their confidence, and give them tools they can use on and off the field. Teen athletes don’t need a babysitter—they need a coach who respects their effort and pushes them to their potential.
