Beginner training plan

Your first lessonIntroduction (5 Minutes) —————————————————————— We will begin with a brief introduction to get to know each other. During this time, I will ask about the athletes previous experience with baseball, interests, and any goals they may have for our sessions. Establishing this foundation helps tailor the instruction to the athletes specific needs and comfort level. Initial Assessment (10 Minutes) —————————————————————— Next, we will conduct a skill evaluation without any coaching or correction. This allows me to observe the athletes current ability and technique in key areas of the game. The goal is to establish a baseline so we can measure progress and identify where to focus our efforts. Skill Development Through Drills (30 Minutes) —————————————————————— We will then transition into structured drill work designed to build fundamental baseball skills. Each drill will be progressive, meaning that new skills will build on those previously practiced. This structured approach ensures a strong foundation while encouraging consistent improvement. Game-Time Challenge (10 Minutes) —————————————————————— To conclude the session, we will engage in a fun and competitive game-like challenge. The athlete will compete against themselves in various tasks or scenarios that reinforce the skills we practiced. This component is designed to make learning enjoyable while providing me with real-time feedback on your development.

How it works

Lesson 4-10At this stage in the training process, the athlete should have a solid understanding of how to identify and improve upon areas of weakness in their game. While continued development in these areas will remain a central focus, we will now begin incorporating drills that emphasize their existing strengths. The purpose of this is twofold: to further develop those natural abilities and, just as importantly, to help your child build confidence in their overall skill set. Confidence plays a vital role in baseball—often making the difference between hesitation and decisive action on the field. By reinforcing what the athlete already does well, I aim to create positive momentum that supports both their technical development and their enjoyment of the game.

Advanced training plan

Lesson 11+Lessons will continue to focus on developing the athlete’s areas of weakness, which at this stage should be showing significant improvement and beginning to transform into strengths. We will also introduce more game-like drills designed to further enhance the athlete’s baseball IQ, enabling them to make smarter decisions and achieve greater success during actual games.

Lesson 4-10As lessons progress, we will continue to focus on transforming the athlete’s areas of weakness into strengths. In addition, we will begin to place greater emphasis on developing the athlete’s baseball IQ—helping them understand how to effectively apply the skills and concepts learned during training to real-game situations. I will encourage the athlete to engage thoughtfully with specific aspects of the game, fostering critical thinking and decision-making abilities that are essential for their overall growth and success on the field.

Lesson 2-3At this stage of training, the athlete will begin working through targeted drills specifically designed to address areas of weakness identified during earlier sessions. The purpose of this focused approach is to systematically turn those weaknesses into strengths. By isolating and improving these specific skills, we’re helping the athlete build a more complete and well-rounded game—ultimately preparing them for higher levels of competition and greater success on the field.

Youth players

Working with kidsWhen working with young athletes, I place a strong emphasis on creating a fun and positive learning environment. While skill development is always a priority, I believe that keeping the experience enjoyable is key to maintaining a child’s interest and enthusiasm for the game. To encourage engagement and effort, I regularly incorporate challenges and turn drills into games. This approach not only makes the sessions more enjoyable, but also helps athletes stay focused, motivated, and eager to improve. My goal is for every child to leave each session having learned something new—and having had a great time doing it.

Working with teenagersWhen working with teenage athletes, I adapt my lesson plans to ensure a balance between structured skill development and keeping the experience enjoyable. I recognize the importance of keeping training fun and engaging at this age, while still making sure each session is productive and purposeful. I incorporate competitive elements and game-based drills to challenge athletes and maintain their focus and effort. This approach not only helps them improve technically, but also keeps them motivated and invested in their development. For athletes who are at the appropriate age and skill level, I also offer guidance and support with the recruiting process. Whether it’s advice on exposure opportunities, helping prepare highlight videos, or simply answering questions, I’m committed to assisting in any way I can to support their goals beyond youth baseball.

About your baseball coach

For over 17 years, I've dedicated my life to baseball. I was fortunate enough to play at the collegiate level at Brevard College where I was named team captain 2 years in a row. As my playing career has just finished I am eager to continue to stay involved in baseball through coaching! I love building relationships and being a role model to all ages! I specialize in hitting and infield with basic knowledge in pitching catching and outfield. I would love the opportunity to work with you / your kid!
