About your baseball coach

I have been passionate about baseball since early childhood. I especially enjoy sharing my love for the game with other players, coaches, parents, and fans. I believe in positive reinforcement through encouragement and instilling confidence. Every player is unique, so I take time to understand each player’s personality, strengths, and overall learning goals. I was born and raised in Houston, TX — a city with many opportunities for competitive youth baseball. I began playing travel ball at age six and soon played on multiple teams year-round. It became more than just a hobby for me; I realized that I wanted to pursue baseball professionally in some capacity. After lettering three years at Bellaire High School in Bellaire, TX, I was recruited to play shortstop for Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. I was one of the few players who made the travel team as a freshman. In my sophomore year, we went on to win the NCAA Division III National Championship. As an upperclassman, I took on a leadership role, honing my skills as both a player and a teacher of the game. Coaches and teammates labeled me as a cerebral player, and coaches trusted me to assist them with game strategy, player management, instructional work, and recruiting. After graduating with a B.S. in Geoscience (‘18), I earned a Masters degree in Geology at UC Davis (‘20). I currently work as an environmental geologist at a consulting firm, where I manage environmental cleanups, investigations, and property assessments. My passion for baseball remains unchanged. I continue to play competitively in a men’s league on the weekends. Baseball has shaped me into who I am as a person and a professional. I hope to use my experience to help players pursue their dreams. Whether you want to play competitively or just want to have fun, sign up for lessons and we can enjoy the game together! Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI like to get to know each player and understand their skill level and goals. I usually start with a quick 10 minute discussion followed by small beginner drills like simple throwing, playing catch, and hitting off a tee or soft toss.
Lesson 11+At this point, repetition becomes very important. This is where the student can really start to see results and start inputting their learned techniques into muscle memory. I like to incorporate a higher volume of reps depending on the student’s goals.
Lesson 4-10Once the student is comfortable, I like to introduce student-specific drills/training to improve their technique. At this point, I usually have students provide feedback as well. It’s important to understand what the student would like to change or if they have any training likes/dislikes.
Lesson 2-3After the first couple of sessions, I then like to incorporate some drills that promote good general technique (tee work, soft toss, coach pitch, ground balls, fly balls, etc.).

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson typically includes a 10 minute discussion to get to know the player and their goals. I then spend time evaluating the players physical skills through basic throwing, fielding, and hitting drills.
Lesson 11+This is when repetition is so important. I like to increase the training volume to start inputting what the player has learned into muscle memory. High reps and high mental focus.
Lesson 4-10Once we establish a routine, we can then amevaluate what adjustments we need to make and start performing complex drills like footwork training, balanced hitting, reaction time, glove work, etc.
Lesson 2-3After the first couple of lessons, I like to develop a long-term goal/plan and begin implementing drills tailored toward that goal.

Youth players
Working with kidsI like to stay jovial and provide positive feedback. I don’t believe in scolding or reprimanding students for mistakes. Making mistakes is part of learning. I also love seeing the joy baseball brings to everyone who plays. That’s why we’re here! I encourage parents to be involved in the lessons. They can learn something too! And sharing that time with their child is so valuable.

Working with teenagersTeenagers are a great age group for lessons. They typically have some experience and can make intelligent adjustments to reach their goals. I like to give them some autonomy in the lesson plans so that they can start taking accountability for their improvement. It’s important for teenagers to feel valued and respected.

What you need to bringPlease bring your bat, glove, helmet, batting gloves, shoes/cleats and any other miscellaneous equipment/protective gear you’d like to include. If you are looking for catching lessons, please bring your own catcher’s gear.

What I can bringI can provide a hitting tee, baseballs, and L-screen/net.
