Coach Josh has given me some key insights on how I’ve approached the game of basketball. Both from a student and coaching standpoint. Honestly I can’t even explain it. It all in the work, you just have to be there to understand that Josh has a knack for understanding what’s needed and applying it to each person. Has I struggled through a lot of things mental things coaching Josh work me through were I was right at apply pressure and wrong at relieving and because of this now my student thrive and don’t under preform but exceed expectations. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe start by establishing a strong foundation in the core fundamentals of basketball. The focus is on proper dribbling technique, basic passing, triple threat positioning, and understanding defensive stance and slides. Each drill is broken down step-by-step to ensure correct form and execution. Emphasis is placed on developing coordination, balance, and control. The goal of this session is to assess the athlete’s current skill level, introduce key terminology, and create a comfortable, focused environment that sets the standard for future growth. .
Lesson 11+In this phase of training, we shift from learning to mastery. Each session is tailored to the individual’s specific needs, targeting areas of growth with precision. We incorporate advanced skill work such as off-the-dribble shooting, footwork refinement, and creating separation from defenders. Sessions include situational breakdowns—teaching how to read defenses, make smart decisions, and execute under pressure. Conditioning is integrated to build endurance and consistency. The goal is to turn fundamentals into second nature, develop confidence, and prepare the athlete to dominate in real-game scenarios, all through focused, one-on-one attention.
Lesson 4-10At this stage, the fundamentals become second nature, and we begin increasing the intensity and complexity of each session. Dribbling drills now serve as a warm-up, incorporating speed, control, and change-of-direction moves. We focus on tempo—keeping sessions upbeat while pushing the athlete to operate at game speed. Emphasis is placed on penetration moves, finishing around the rim with both hands, and mastering bank shots in the paint. Footwork, balance, and body control are key. Each session is tailored to challenge the athlete, sharpen their instincts, and prepare them for the next level of competition.
Lesson 2-3We begin layering complexity onto the foundational skills established in the first session. Each drill is refined with attention to detail—focusing on proper hand placement, footwork, and body control. Dribbling and passing drills now incorporate movement and decision-making. By the end of Lesson 2 and throughout Lesson 3, we introduce shooting mechanics, emphasizing form, balance, and follow-through. Athletes learn how to use the backboard effectively and build muscle memory through high-repetition, game-relevant shooting drills. Sessions remain hands-on and highly focused, with real-time correction and encouragement.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWe begin by evaluating the athlete’s current skill set through a series of high-intensity drills designed to expose strengths and pinpoint areas for improvement. Focus areas include advanced ball-handling combinations, passing under pressure, footwork efficiency, and shooting consistency. We introduce tempo control, pace changes, and situational awareness. The session ends with a brief conditioning segment. This assessment lays the foundation for a custom training plan that challenges the athlete at every level.
Lesson 11+At this level, the athlete is expected to train with a professional mindset. Sessions focus on mastering situational basketball—late-game execution, reading help defense, and capitalizing on mismatches. We introduce advanced footwork for creating space, as well as shot creation under tight defense. Each session includes film breakdown (if available), mental toughness development, and in-depth feedback. The goal is to prepare the athlete to dominate in high-level competition through precision, confidence, and relentless consistency.
Lesson 4-10We ramp up the intensity and begin tailoring each session to specific positional needs and game scenarios. This phase focuses heavily on offensive creation—scoring off isolation, pick-and-roll reads, and attacking closeouts. Shooting drills now incorporate range extension, quick releases, and contested shots. Defensive work includes on-ball pressure, recovery steps, and closeouts. Sessions are fast-paced, with minimal downtime. Conditioning drills simulate in-game stamina demands, and we work on maximizing efficiency with every movement.
Lesson 2-3These sessions are designed to push the athlete’s limits. We introduce elite-level dribbling drills, including change-of-speed/change-of-direction moves, combo dribbles, and pressure situations. Shooting drills simulate game-like conditions—catch-and-shoot, off-the-dribble, and off-the-move reps. We also begin reading defensive cues and decision-making in real time. Attention to detail is critical, with constant feedback on footwork, shot mechanics, and body positioning. Conditioning and mental focus are integrated throughout the session to develop consistency under fatigue.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I focus on making each session fun, engaging, and easy to understand. I break down the fundamentals into simple steps and use games and challenges to keep them motivated. The goal is to build confidence, coordination, and a love for the game while teaching proper technique in a positive, encouraging environment.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I take a more structured and intense approach, balancing skill development with physical conditioning and basketball IQ. I tailor each session to their individual goals—whether it’s making a team, earning more playing time, or preparing for higher competition. Sessions are competitive and focused on helping them master fundamentals, apply them in game-like situations, and build a strong work ethic.
