About your basketball coach

Hi I'm coach JD and I'm 28 years old. I have been playing basketball since I was 6 and have years of experience coaching at the high school level. Being a good basketball player you have to be consistent, have a hard work ethic, and be coachable. Working on your skills is just as important as playing the game. That creates growth and separation in your game. If you want to be better, be different. Are you ready to elevate your game to the next level? Let's work!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonAll about the basics and fundamentals. We need to be consistent and build confidence. We will work on ball handling with stationary dribbling. Defense and getting into the correct stance and how to move. Footwork and learning how to pivot and not travel or double dribble. Learn how to pass the ball. Work on layups and shooting.
Lesson 11+At this point we should be able to move through the basics and fundamentals a lot quicker allowing us to free up time to work on more advanced moves. We will focus on more game situations. Example: how to handle the ball more under pressure. How to score the ball coming off screens. Using our skillset more in game like actions.
Lesson 4-10Consistency is key. Still work on the basics and fundamentals. When it comes to our finishing and shooting there will be more advanced moves we will work on that will set us up to score. As the lessons go on we will start working on our triple threat and scoring in our triple threat.
Lesson 2-3A lot of the same things as the first lesson but will add more to it when it comes to dribbling and shooting.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonStart off with a warmup. Then go into some defensive drills. After we will do some ball handling to sharpen our handle. Then work on dribble moves while finishing at the rim and shooting jump shots. Then get reps in shooting the ball from the 5 spots on the court from the midrange and 3. End it with free throws.
Lesson 11+Can never go away from the basics. We will be able to fly through that while improving our skills. We will work on more game situations. Work on pick and rolls. Work on our footwork in the post. More advanced workout when it comes to shooting. Driving and kicking out, to cutting and shooting. More advanced finishes at the rim with more advanced moves.
Lesson 4-10We have to be consistent. Sharpen our ball handling. Work more on triple threat moves finishing and shooting. Work more on game situational shots, building up that confidence and be consistent. Work more on handling the ball under pressure and learning how not to turn the ball over.
Lesson 2-3Similar to the first lesson but will work on more advanced dribble moves, stationary and when attacking the basket to finish and shooting. Working on pull up jump shots and 3s.

Youth players
Working with kidsStart off with a warmup. Then go into some defensive slide drills. Afterwards we will work on the basics of dribbling. Learning how to dribble, hop step, and pivot so we don’t travel. Work on that same thing with layups. Then go into shooting drills. Lots of reps shooting the ball from the 5 spots on the court. Drills can be different or a little more advanced depending on the age. May end practice with playing some basketball or bump out. Just depends on how many kids are there.

Working with teenagersStart off with a warmup. After then go into some defensive drills. Next some stationary ball handling. Do some finishing drills at the basket while using dribble moves and triple threat moves. Put in lots of reps shooting. More game like shooting drills. Then play some basketball depending on how many kids. The goal is to work on the kids skill so they can grow their game and do what they learn in the game with confidence and consistency. With the teenagers they should be more advanced so therefore the drills will be more advanced but if they aren’t it’s okay because not everyone is on the same skill level that’s why we are putting in the work to grow our game a develop.

What you need to bringPreferably bring a basketball that is correct regulation to the trainee. Whether it’s men’s, women’s, or youth basketball. Water! You want to be comfortable. Basketball shoes, shorts not pants.

What I can bringLimited basketballs. Cones.
