Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI like to hold an introductory lesson that involves a conversation about getting to know the student. Questions I ask during the first lesson include, “Why do you want to learn English,” “What are your goals and/or purposes for learning English,” “What is your proficiency level,” and “Is there any topic, grammatical concept, set of vocabulary terms you would like to start with?”
Lesson 2-3Lessons on their requested topics and/or concepts from the first lesson along with a brief series of practice exercises and a homework assignment to help them practice their new knowledge/skills.
Lesson 4-10Further practice of materials from previous lessons in addition to some reading, writing, and speaking activities. Also beginning discussions about quizzes and testing over materials learned so far.
Lesson 11+Continued expansion of learned materials, building of skills through my real outside-of-class teaching/learning strategies such as learning by watching TV and movies, listening to music, etc. Possible testing depending on level of confidence and comfort of student. Planning next lessons over further new material as requested by students.
