About your football coach

Hey, I’m Coach Dex — a former college offensive lineman and current varsity football coach who’s passionate about helping athletes reach their potential. I specialize in working with offensive and defensive linemen, focusing on footwork, technique, strength, and football IQ. Whether you’re a youth player just learning the game or a high school athlete trying to level up, I’ll meet you where you’re at and build a plan that fits your goals. I earned a full scholarship to play at the University of Sioux Falls after grinding through junior college at Laney College (as seen on Last Chance U), so I know firsthand how far hard work can take you. I currently coach at Heritage High School and am also working toward my PE teaching credential because coaching and teaching are what I love. Sessions with me are upbeat, detailed, and built around confidence and repetition. If you’re ready to put in work, I’m ready to help you move people against their will.

Sahib Gill
I’ve been a starter since sophomore year, but Coach Dex helped me refine the little things—like timing my punch, pad level, and reading blocks. He coaches like he actually cares about your growth, not just the reps.
Jake Rivera
Coach Dex really helped me clean up my stance and strike. I was decent before, but now I understand how to use my leverage and hands way better. His drills actually translate to the field, and he always keeps it real with us.
Ryan Casteneda
I wasn’t always the strongest guy, but Coach Dex taught me how to play smart and use angles and leverage. He gives clear feedback and holds you to a high standard. My technique and confidence both got way better.
Javier Escalante
I never played line before, but Coach Dex gave me a shot and showed me how to do it right. Now I’m actually excited to get in the trenches. He made the work fun, and I’ve improved a lot in just a few weeks.
Anthony Doumadyous
I came in with barely any experience on the line, and Coach Dex broke everything down so I could learn it fast. He’s patient but pushes you to get better every session. I feel way more confident now lining up at D-line.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe start with an evaluation of stance, posture, and footwork. I keep it simple and focused—no pads, no pressure. I’ll introduce the basic OL or DL stance, test how you move in space, and break down expectations. The goal is to build trust, set the tone, and get a baseline for where we’re starting.
Lesson 11+We’re locked in now—focused on refining technique, improving football IQ, reacting under pressure, and mastering position-specific details. We’ll simulate game situations, watch film, and fine-tune every movement to help you dominate on the line.
Lesson 4-10Now we’re getting into real technique. OL will work base blocks, reach, down, double teams, and pass pro sets. DL will work sheds, rip/swim moves, gap control, and get-off timing. I’ll adjust based on the player’s position (tackle, guard, end, etc.), and we’ll start applying skills in 1-on-1 scenarios.
Lesson 2-3We build from the ground up: stance, starts, and first-step explosion. I focus on core footwork patterns—drive steps, lateral movement, hand placement—and introduce basic drills like chutes, sleds, and bags depending on what’s available. We start identifying strengths and weaknesses.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWith advanced linemen, the first session is about identifying technical gaps and setting clear goals. I’ll run them through a mix of movement drills, hand fights, and block recognition. We’ll film and break things down together to highlight areas to sharpen.
Lesson 11+At this stage, we’re sharpening the blade. Sessions are tailored to the athlete’s scheme, role, and season. Expect college-style tempo, high-level hand and footwork drills, advanced film breakdown, and mental prep for game situations. The goal is to dominate your matchup, not just survive it.
Lesson 4-10Expect intense, position-specific sessions. OL will focus on advanced combo blocks, blitz pickup, mirror drills, and anchor recovery. DL will work pass rush plans, 2-gap technique, counters, and gap exchange. We’ll introduce film study and situational IQ. Speed, power, and technique all come together here.
Lesson 2-3We lock in on high-level fundamentals—pad level, strike timing, block shedding, counter moves, pass set variations. Every rep is coached with purpose, with drills designed to fix bad habits and build consistency.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I keep things simple, fun, and focused on movement and body awareness. We work on basic footwork, coordination, and learning how to move with control and confidence. I use games, light drills, and constant positive feedback to build a strong foundation without overwhelming them.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I challenge them more while still keeping it supportive. We dive into position-specific technique, mental focus, and accountability. I coach in a way that builds their confidence, prepares them for high school football, and pushes them to work with intent and purpose.

What you need to bringAthletes should bring cleats, athletic clothes, and a water bottle. If they have personal gear like gloves, lineman hand shields, or position-specific tools (like a QB towel or arm sleeve), they’re welcome to bring those too.

What I can bringI can provide footballs, cones, ladders, resistance bands, and basic agility and conditioning equipment. If needed, I can also bring whiteboard materials for film review or chalk talk.
