About your golf coach
Alan has been employed at Steele Canyon since January 1998. He began working in outside guest services then moved into the golf shop in 2001 and handled member events, group outings, and corporate tournaments before becoming Head Golf Professional in 2013. His work experience continued to grow and he has now taken over as the General Manager at Steele Canyon. He is deeply rooted in the San Diego area graduating from Monte Vista High School and then UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Graphics. During his education, Alan also played golf at the collegiate level and maintained a 73.5 stroke average. He is a 2-time U.S. Amateur participant at Oakmont CC in 2003 and Merion CC in 2005, before turning Professional in 2006 and playing on the A.G. Spanos Tour for 1 year. After experiencing the mini-tour lifestyle and PGA Tour Qualifying School he then committed himself full-time to teaching and working at Steele Canyon. His participation in several USGA, SCGA, PGA, collegiate, and amateur events provides him with a strong foundation of tournament experience that he incorporates in his teachings. Some notable accomplishments for Alan as a PGA Professional include: 2023 San Diego Chapter Match Play Champion 2022 San Diego Chapter Match Play Champion 2021 San Diego Chapter Player of the Year 2021 San Diego Chapter Match Play Champion 2021 TaylorMade National 4-Ball Champion 2020 San Diego Chapter Player of the Year 2020 SCPGA 4-Ball Champion 2019 San Diego Chapter Championship Runner-Up with 2 round total 69-66 2018 San Diego Chapter Player of the Year 2017 San Diego Chapter Match Play Champion 2017 Southern California Section Championship Runner-Up with scores of 72-71-68 2015 TaylorMade Pro-Am Champion with a score of 67 2015 Woods Valley Pro-Am Champion with a score of 69 2014 PGA Tour Humana Challenge (formerly the Bob Hope Classic) and recorded rounds of 79-73-70 2014 San Diego Chapter Stroke Play Championship Runner Up 2013 Southern California PGA Section Champion, 3 round total of 13 under par, 70-68-65 Alan is a TaylorMade Certified Clubfitter who continues to enjoy the game on the course as well as helping golfers on the range improve their game.
