Every now and then, you stumble upon something great and don't realize how much you needed it until you had it. This is how I would define who Coach David and the highly invaluable lessons we've had together the past few months. When I began working with David, I outlined several areas of my golf game which I was looking to improve in--swing mechanics, short game, and scoring in general. In our first lesson, the was able to root out some pretty fundamental flaws in my swing which I have overlooked, yielding in instant improvement. I appreciate that he is able to scale his instruction to my needs and that he's extremely generous in sharing knowledge while addressing all my questions which help me understand the *why* in what we're learning. Lastly, a remarkable (and my favorite) quality of David is just how encouraging he is as a coach and human being. He's someone who really wants you to succeed, constantly roots for you, and makes you feel proud when you've accomplished something. 10/10--would recommend!

I've been a kindergarten teacher, US Marine, EMT, construction safety manager, and probably a dozen other jobs in my life. David is one of the best instructors I've ever come across in any industry. His lessons are easy to understand, he'll get you into good practice habits fast, and he is also incredibly funny and a great story teller. Highly recommend, 3 lesson bundle price listed on his website already very competitive, don't bother going through Groupon. Wish I had stopped trying to buy clubs to improve my game and started lessons with him earlier.

We are very impressed with Coach David! He is super professional, patient, and truly dedicated to his students' success. He carefully explained all areas of improvement without ever rushing the session or watching the clock. His focus was always on helping my teen achieve the goals she set for her school tournaments, and we are very grateful for his support. We look forward to continuing her training with him.

How it works

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonSession 1 is Putting Part 1
Lesson 4-10SESSION 4: PITCHING/PITCH SWING Perform this on the mat using range balls Definition: an elongated chip - Less airtime = more distance & more roll NOTE: The student should be able to perform pitching relatively easy after having two weeks of practice time chipping and three weeks of putting by this point. Pitch Swing: All the above for the pitch is applicable – but here we will add the full lower body rotation to follow the upper body, thereby allowing the full front of the entire body to face the intended target line. The pitch swing is just a training mechanism to allow the student to feel what the golf swing will be like, as well as introduce them to rotating their entire body through the swing to finish. SESSION 5: THE SWING - Low Irons (Pitching Wedge up to 7 Iron) SESSION 6: LONG IRON(S) SWING (6 Iron through 3 Iron) ALL ITEMS FROM SESSION 5 ARE APPLICABLE NOTE: Just because these are longer clubs, does not mean we swing different SESSION 7: WOODS AND HYBRIDS ALL ITEMS FROM SESSION 5 AND SESSION 6 ARE APPLICABLE Hybrids: The Hybrid is a longer club so make sure the ball position moves forward and grip is stronger; Have patience for the club to clear your left side Swing it like the seven iron - down and through the ball and get to full finish (BE AGGRESSIVE BUT STAY IN RHYTHM) NOTE: ALL CLUBS Short or long – when swinging through the ball must clear or get to your left side before your start ascending (Raising the torso /head) to see the ball’s flight (WAIT FOR THE BALL TO LEAVE – THEN LOOK) ALL ITEMS FROM SESSION 5 AND SESSION 6 ARE APPLICABLE Woods: There are two methods of swinging the Woods: Old School Swing New School Swing NOTE: Which method works best for you will be determined by you during your lesson SESSION 8: DRIVER The driver is the longest club in the golf bag - You must give it room and be patient during the swing to allow the club to finish swinging through the ball. NOTE: Rhythm in your swing is key - for the backswing to the top - Say “I LOVE” on the downswing you want to go get your favorite food (ex. “Pizza”) to full finish SESSION 9: BUNKERS: Who doesn’t like to play in the sand? Bunker shots are Easy and Difficult Easy: You are swinging through the sand (hitting the sand), not trying to hit the ball, to push sand in order to push the ball out of the bunker. Difficult: You are swinging through the sand and pushing the sand to push the ball out of the bunker and not hitting the ball. Greenside Bunker Shot: Typically performed with a wedge (Gap Wedge, Sand Wedge, Lob Wedge) NOTE: The sand is typically coarse, thick and heavy, so please swing with vigor Fairway Bunker Shot: Typically performed with an iron that has loft (9/8/7 irons) or any club that will allow you to get the ball over the lip of the bunker to advance it toward the green (could be a 5 iron/hybrid/wood) SESSION 10: APPROACH SHOTS These shots are usually completed with your Lob Wedge, Sand Wedge, Gap Wedge and Pitching Wedge for the most part. Definition: These are shots that are mostly from 40 to 120 yards into the Green. NOTE: Tempo and rhythm no matter which type of swing you are doing is key. Make sure to keep your tempo and rhythm fluid and consistent. Follow Ups and Revisits: If at anytime you feel you need to revisit a session, please do not hesitate to say so. Having a proper understanding of the session and its parts is key to a successful golf experience.
Lesson 2-3Session 2 is Putting Part 2 SESSION 3: GRIP AND CHIPPING THE GRIP - It is at this stage that we will set your grip. Definition: The way we hold the club in our hands There are three (3) styles of grips The Overlap Grip The Interlock Grip The Ten Finger (baseball style) Grip (B.) Chipping...the game that can save your per green score (a) Definition: Chipping is in elongated putt. More Air time, Less Rol

About your golf coach

I was certified in 2017, through the USGTF. I have 20 years of experience in golf learning, training and playing. I coached a USGLL golf team to a second-place finish; I have volunteered for the First Tee program in Orange County; I was actively involved in the Los Alamitos High School Girls Golf Booster Club from 2012-2016; I managed several golf fundraisers for the Los Alamitos High School Girls Golf team and before being certified I taught several individuals, including my wife, to play this great game. From being mentored, playing, reading books, speaking with other instructors and watching some of the “Greats” play, I continue leaning and understanding more and more each day about this game. I teach at Whittier Narrows Golf Course in Rosemead, California, and I am currently the Head Golf Coach for the Valley Christian High School varsity girls golf team and the Assistant Coach for the boys junior varsity golf team located in Cerritos, California. I have a love for the game and am truly inspired to pass on what I have learned over the years.
