About your golf coach

I’m a proud graduate of the Campbell University PGA Golf Management (PGM) program, class of 2012, and have been passionate about teaching golf since my high school days, when I started helping my coach run junior camps. I was fortunate to serve as captain of my varsity golf team all four years and earned All-State and All-Section honors as a junior and senior. Golf has always been a big part of my life, but nothing means more to me than family. I’m a down to earth family man, happily married to my amazing wife of 10 years. We’re raising two wonderful kids, a fun-loving 4-year-old son and a sweet 9-month-old daughter along with our energetic chocolate lab.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGet to know the student and skills and knowledge of the game
Lesson 11+Trying to get out on the course more to understand the playability part of the game
Lesson 4-10Continue with getting in the right positions of the golf swing and really working on that impact position and knowledge of the different ball flights and how that occurs
Lesson 2-3Start out with overview and teach some basics. Grip Aim Posture. Work on getting the right technique started. Work on our chipping, pitching, and full swing

Advanced training plan
Your first lesson1. Player Interview (10 min) • Competitive goals, scoring average, strengths/weaknesses • Practice habits, physical limitations, mental game self-assessment 2. Full Swing Assessment (15 min) • Video capture (face-on & down-the-line) • Launch monitor data (if available): club path, face angle, AoA, spin • Determine key swing tendencies 3. Short Game Evaluation (10 min) • 20–60 yard wedge shots • Green-side chipping from various lies • Bunker technique snapshot 4. Putting Evaluation (10 min) • Stroke pattern (face rotation, path, tempo) • Distance control and green reading tendencies 5. Mental Game Snapshot (5 min) • Pre-shot routine • Pressure mindset • Self-talk and confidence discussion 6. Priority Plan & Homework (15 min) • Identify 1–2 key technical areas to work on • Assign video drills, feedback loop tools (mirror, phone, etc.)
Lesson 4-10Objective: Transfer skills to performance mode and optimize course strategy. Performance-Based Practice • Combine skill stations (e.g., wedge ladder followed by low fade challenge) • Create situational drills (e.g., 3 up-and-downs from different lies in 5 balls) • Introduce pressure elements (consequences for missed shots) On-Course/Simulated Course Time • Play 3–6 holes (on course or simulator) • Focus on decision-making, target lines, pre-shot routine • Discuss miss zones and scoring tendencies • Assign strategic challenges (e.g., only one club, up-and-down challenges, course management quiz) Advanced Shot Shaping & Control • Develop trajectory windows • Dial in stock draw/fade • Introduce sidehill lies, awkward stances, partial shots Putting Under Pressure • Compete in putting drills (Ladder Game, 21 Drill, 3–6–9 Circle Drill) • Create pressure with consequences (e.g., restart if missed) • Emphasize routine and mindset over technique Final Evaluation in Lesson 10 • Re-record swing for comparison to Lesson 1 • Review stats & practice logs • Set long-term goals and personalized training roadmap
Lesson 2-3Objective: Correct key swing mechanics & short game technique with measurable feedback. Full Swing Focus (20–25 min each lesson) • Work on identified mechanical flaw (e.g., early extension, clubface control, transition sequencing) • Use drills with feedback stations (alignment rods, impact bag, towel under arms, etc.) • Compare swing before/after with video • Begin shaping shots (fade/draw, low/high) Short Game Emphasis (15–20 min each lesson) • Chipping: Low vs. high trajectories, toe vs. heel strikes • Pitching: Varying spin using ball position and shaft lean • Introduce wedge matrix (carry distance charting at 30/50/70/90 yds) Putting Routine (10–15 min each lesson) • Gate drills for path and face • Distance control from 30–50 feet • Start line drills (chalk line or string) Homework & Tracking (5 min) • Weekly practice assignment • Encourage combining blocked and random practice • Begin stat tracking for strokes gained categories

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids recommend the child be at least 5 or 6 and has the patience and attention span for at least 30 minutes. Been teaching junior golf for a long time and it’s all about keeping it fun and easy to understand

Working with teenagersWorking with teenagers can have its difficulties if they don’t want to learn the game. But if they are interested they typically have the attention span to really start grinding and understanding the game. They are easily able to go the hour with no issues

What you need to bringIf student has own clubs is preferred, water bottles, and appropriate golf attire

What I can bringSupply Golf Balls at the driving range
