Beginner training plan
Your first lessonDay one: explanation of how to hold the instruments, finger numbers, basic hand positions. Probably start on a scale and an easy song, and maybe some chords, depending on how it goes.
Lesson 2-3More scales, songs that are slightly more challenging, and maybe some drum and picking patterns, as well as other chords
Lesson 4-10Beginning to use the entire neck with more advanced chords and songs. Everybody’s different so from here on in it’s up to the student. My job is to keep it fun, and keep you coming back.
Lesson 11+We’re at the point where the student can start playing in different styles and improvising, basic solos and chord substitutions, as well as more advanced right hand work. Again everybody’s different and it’s up to the student how far they want to be pushed along.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonFigure out where the student is in terms of music, knowledge and technique. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, they may need to step back a bit to refine their technique.
Lesson 2-3Building upon the first lesson, we start to takeoff with more advanced harmony, and songs, and if necessary, soloing and improvising over this music
Lesson 4-10Beginning to integrate more theory into how Music works and creating your own music, which is a great reward
Lesson 11+The journey just keeps going….

Youth players
Working with kidsStep number one-make friends with the student. They should feel at ease and trust me and realize that music is gonna be a lot of fun first and foremost.

Working with teenagersStep number one, make friends and lighten up. Everybody’s different, and I want them to feel at ease, and I respect their choices with what types of music they wish to pursue. If they don’t have any preconceived direction, I have lots of suggestions!

What you need to bringYour instrument, and the music that we’re working on. I write out all my own teaching stuff and songs, so you don’t need a book, but do you get a three ring notebook with clear plastic page protectors, as I will be giving you sheets with chords, scales, songs, etc. i’m pretty organized, and like my students to be the same.

What I can bringI have amps and instruments if necessary

Photo of Geri C. Geri C. 2 years ago I am pleased to have finally found a proficient music teacher to coach me on improving my ukulele playing skills. Glenn is an accomplished, highly qualified professional with strong musical background and instruction experience. With his guidance, I have made satisfying progress with growing confidence since signing up for weekly half-hour private lessons. What I like most is that he's patient and encouraging, empowering me to learn at my own pace and capabilities towards my goal, while clearly pinpointing an area that merits further refinement at each session.

I've been taking guitar lessons with Glenn for 2–3 years now, and I recommend him to every friend or colleague who wants to learn guitar (or bass or ukulele) or improve their playing. Glenn has a library of songs tabbed out; once he gets a general sense of where you are in your progress with the guitar, he can suggest dozens of songs in each of several genres--rock, jazz, blues, pop, etc.--that are appropriate for your level. He works with you until you are comfortable playing that song and it's time to move on to a new song, slowly increasing in difficulty as your skill develops. This approach has helped me to slowly, but steadily, develop my skills while playing songs I enjoy. If you want to stick with a pick, stick with finger style, or develop both skills, Glenn can help you improve. If you want to read tabs or read standard notation, Glenn can work with you on either. He mixes in some theory along the way, but not so much that it gets in the way of the fun of playing the guitar. I'm a middle-aged guy, but if you are looking for a guitar teacher for your child, my impression is that he is a great teacher for children and teenagers as well. He is friendly and patient, important traits in a guitar teacher!

Glenn is a phenomenal instructor, teacher & coach, & is very proficient on multiple instruments. If you are a beginner, he will have you playing songs almost immediately (and much more than just Mary had a little lamb or twinkle twinkle little star). If you are intermediate, he is certain to increase your abilities in short order. You have a song you want to learn - he can write it out in just a few minutes & you will playing the song in no time. Glenn is incredibly patient with every lesson. I can not recommend Glenn highly enough. One cannot go wrong with signing-up for his lessons
Tommy
I really enjoy taking guitar lessons with Glenn. He’s a great instructor, very patient and easy to learn from, and he does a good job keeping the lessons fun. I especially like that he writes out tabs for some of our favorite songs, because it gives us something we enjoy playing and keeps us engaged. I’ve definitely felt like I’ve improved while also having a lot of fun with the lessons, and I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn guitar.
