Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIf this is your first lesson we will begin with introducing the instrument. Including: how to identify all parts of the instrument, how it is held, hand location, and feet board recognition. My goal is to have you playing at least 3 recognizable melodies by the end of the lesson. Along with dexterity exercises to get all fingers moving along the fretboard
Lesson 11+After selecting a few songs for you to learn each week you will be expected to perform them along with me in each lesson. My goal is to teach you to also learn songs on your own. That way you are meeting my expectations as well as learning additional material that you yourself select for supplemental practice. In the end you will be actively pursuing your dream of learning and playing music!
Lesson 4-10After reviewing previous lessons we will be in a routine of daily finger exercises to start out each practice session. Chord strumming patterns will become more intricate and relatable to songs you might have heard on the radio. This is all in preparation to teach you your first real song! This could be one of your preference when applicable or one of my proven examples. If desired, we can also begin reading standard notation music. This is usually preferred for younger students or those who wish to perform in an ensemble that requires reading.
Lesson 2-3Review of initial lesson and explanation of any info that you may require in regards to your new found journey. Finger exercises will continue along the fretboard. We will introduce the songwriting style of Tablature (TAB). This is unique to the guitar and a useful tool to begin playing written out melodies on the instrument. Additionally we will introduce chords along with strumming exercises.

How it works
Assess the players level and aptitude on their instrument. This would include reading, performing, and verbalizing their abilities.
Lesson 11+Once firmly established in your musical path, advanced lessons will require a commitment to daily practice and completion of all assignments. Additionally, I will be expecting that you are also exploring all music that influences you and drives you to want to learn more. Listening to music becomes a major part of being an advanced musician and this should carry on throughout your day and not just in private lessons. If writing music becomes an interest we will surely be working on developing your original music as well as incorporate musical theory to better develop your writing skills.
Lesson 4-10After settling on your direction this will determine our course of action. Depending on the direction, this could mean intense technique exercises and sight reading. Or, we could begin to discover your β€œsound” and what music influences your musical wants and desires.
Lesson 2-3Begin a plan for taking your abilities to the next level. This includes new exercises to develop your technique. Start learning songs out of your comfort level to further your ability on the instrument. It’s also important at this level to determine exactly what kind of player you want to be. Do you want to create original music? Do you want to audition for an ensemble? Do you want to focus on formal technique and reading? Do you want to learn as many songs as possible? These are questions that will help guide us in the direction you are seeking

Youth players
Working with kidsYounger students enjoy hearing and playing songs they recognize. This could be from a cartoon, video game, or jingle they’ve heard on the TV or radio. I like to play these for them and see what they recognize and teach them to play the melodies back to me. This engines their musical journey in a fun way and keeps them interested. When the time is right we begin to introduce technical aspects of the instrument and music to which they will develop their abilities

Working with teenagersTeenagers become very interested in what they see and hear from live music or videos online and on TV. For some this means learning the newest songs from their favorite band. For others it could include auditioning for school band. Whatever the case, at this age teenagers are able to make the decision of what their musical goals are. It is my job to help them along this journey by teaching them skills and techniques to learn songs during lessons as well as learn on their own outside of lessons. With so many different styles of music it’s important that students actively listen and start to discover what interests them and gives them the desire to practice and perform these songs. If being in an auditioned based band is a goal, lessons will require many technical facets. This will include: Scales, Chords, Reading, Modes, Theory, and Transcribing. These are all requirements for Highschool All State auditions as well as College level auditions
