About your guitar coach
I am a lover of music and people. I was a late start musician so I have an understanding of the learning process first hand. I have always been musical but I jumped into intense collegiate music study in my 40’s. The study of music has enriched my life with more than just great songs. I’ve made amazing friends, been to cool places and connected with all ages. The tribe that’s drawn to make music are my favorite people and we dive down any lane of music you want. It’s all amazing and it just gets more fun as you go. I’m classically trained and bring good technique to all genres of music. I enjoying singing as well and feel hearing pitch and repeating it is an important skill even if your not a singer. Your heart, ear and sense of groove is of utmost importance. Shannon is an excellent teacher! She’s classically trained which gives her a leg up when teaching her students any genre. She really engages her students and pushes them to improve. And she’s great at creating guitar communities with her students; she not only wants you to learn how to play but how to share the joy of music. I highly recommend her as a teacher!!

We could not have asked for a better teacher to foster his love of music and interest in learning guitar. Shannon is such an amazing teacher and truly cares and invests in her students. Shannon is an amazing teacher who listens to her students and caters the lessons to what you want to get from guitar. Beyond just teaching techniques, she makes music fun, inspiring, and meaningful. She is also great for beginners. She
took me from “never played guitar before and knew nothing” to comfortably playing Fleetwood Mac, Jason Mraz, and Tom Petty, enough to perform at a local mic. She was constantly refining my technique to make sure I learned the foundations of hand positioning and basic theory. She has a deep knowledge of music and would have a lot to offer even experienced players wanting to level up. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe will learn the anatomy of the guitar and a few chords for your first song. We will talk about groove and pitch as well as what you love about music and what your goals are.
Lesson 11+After 11 lessons you will have the basics and be craving to move towards the style you prefer. We will work on specific skills to perform in the style you’re interested.
Lesson 4-10You will learn about how music works and a bit about how scales and chords are built. You will have a few songs you’re working on and we will pick appropriate exercises to help you teach your goals. We will learn TAB so you can read music on guitar with ease. We will use a capo. We will learn to tune by ear.
Lesson 2-3We will learn some ways to increase your coordination and train your ear as well as work toward that first song. There are some simple scale patterns like the aeolian scale or the pentatonic scale that we may use for practice and coordination.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonIt’s important to know what you want to accomplish or understand. Once we have a clear goal, I will create curriculum around your needs to help you make the improvements you want to make.
Lesson 11+Whether you want to write music, perform or teach, we will move towards excellence and make great music. What ever you still need to learn or perfect, we will have fun getting there. 💕🎶
Lesson 4-10Learning to really pay attention to all the aspects of musical performance takes practice and concentration. We will work on strategies to bring out your best performance. We will dive deeper into scales and modes and the Nashville number system.
Lesson 2-3As we work together, we will narrow in on the gaps ok knowledge or skills that need improving so we can get you closer to your goals. Do you know your scales? Do you understand CAGED? Do you understand inversions?
Youth players
Working with kidsI keep it fun and easy so they’re successful. Whether we use Disney or video game tunes, music should be a joy and I try to find age appropriate ways to do that with each young person. Regardless of age, we learn ear training and rhythm appropriately suited for the age as that is the foundation of all music. I use the music they like to teach so I can be sure they will enjoy it.
Working with teenagersTeens are a unique bunch. Sometimes they want music I’ve never heard and so I get great exposure to the latest cool music. It’s a lot of fun and I’ve learned some of my favorite songs from teens choices.
They tend to learn fast and it’s important to me to give them good technique and some helpful info to build their learning on. They often jump around YouTube videos and have gaps of knowledge. I connect the dots for them and love to be a safe friend they can blossom under. As a mother of 2 daughters in their 20’s, I’ve spent plenty of time with teens and enjoy teaching them something they will hopefully love and enjoy and share with others the rest of their lives.

What I can bringI can bring a music stand for us both and an iPad for resourcing new songs. I’ll have spare strings tuners and capos and will have personalized curriculum to give you as we go.
