The first lesson is about two things: seeing where youβre starting from and getting a stick to feel natural in your hands. Weβll spend a few minutes on grip, athletic stance, and how to cradle so the ball stays protected while you move. From there we get right into throwing and catching on your strong hand at close range, because reps build confidence fast. My goal by the end of session one is that you leave able to catch and throw cleanly, understand the basics of how the stick works, and actually want to come back. No drowning you in information.
These two lock in the fundamentals. We keep sharpening throwing and catching, but now we start introducing your off hand early, because thatβs what separates players down the road. We add ground balls, which is where a huge share of possessions are won, and start layering in basic footwork so youβre not standing flat when the ball comes. Expect a lot of movement and repetition. This is where the mechanics start turning into muscle memory instead of something you have to think about.
This block is where you start looking like a real player. We build out dodging, shooting mechanics and shot placement, and defensive footwork and positioning so you can play both ends of the field. We keep pushing off-hand development hard, and we start putting you into small-space situations like 1v1s and 2v2s so skills show up under a little pressure. Weβll also start pointing you toward a position that fits your strengths. By lesson ten you should have a full toolbox, even if itβs not polished yet.
Now itβs about game IQ and refinement. We take everything youβve built and apply it to live, situational play: reading the field, making the right decision, and executing when itβs not a controlled drill. We sharpen your position-specific skills, add more advanced dodges and shots, and get you into scrimmage reps. Iβll also set you up with a wall ball routine so you keep improving on your own between sessions, which is honestly the biggest lever for getting good. From here itβs a long game of steady reps and small refinements.
The first session with an advanced player is really an evaluation. I want to see what you already do well and where the leaks are, because you donβt need me teaching you to catch. Weβll go through a dynamic warmup, then some fast-paced throwing and catching on the move to check your hands under speed and on both sides. From there Iβll put you through a few position-specific reps and a couple of live situations so I can see how you make decisions, not just how you execute. By the end Iβll have a clear read on your game and weβll set two or three specific goals to build the plan around.
These are about attacking your biggest weaknesses head-on, whatever the first session exposed. If itβs your off hand under pressure, we live there. If itβs finishing inside or shooting on the run, thatβs the focus. Expect higher rep counts, less standing around, and constraints that force you out of your comfort zone. We start pairing skill work with conditioning so your mechanics hold up when youβre tired, because thatβs when advanced players break down. This block is less about learning new things and more about closing the gap on whatβs already holding your ceiling down.
This is the heart of the plan and where real jumps happen. We build out your advanced skill set: change-of-direction dodges, second and third moves, shooting from tough angles and off-platform, and reading defenders instead of reacting to them. Everything moves into game speed and live, contested reps so it transfers to Saturday. We sharpen your position IQ hard here, whether thatβs slides and communication on defense, off-ball movement on attack, or two-way play at the midfield. Weβll also start filming reps so you can see yourself, because at this level the tape teaches faster than I can talk.
Now itβs about polish, consistency, and standing out. We stress-test everything under fatigue and pressure, chase the small technical details that separate good from recruited, and dial in the parts of your game that college or club coaches actually notice. Iβll keep you accountable to a serious individual routine, wall ball and film included, so youβre improving between every session and not just during them. From here itβs a long, honest grind of refining strengths and eliminating the last weaknesses. My job is to keep raising the standard so you keep chasing it.
