A joyful and passionate graduate of Valparaiso University in music and theatre, I've spent over 8 years teaching piano, voice, and acting. I believe that learning should be a delightful adventure! With a Music Improv Conservatory degree from Second City and a rich background, including teaching at esteemed institutions like Chicago Children’s Theatre and Chicago Public Schools, I've inspired both young and adult learners in Chicago and Los Angeles. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFor a beginner’s lesson we will learn the layout of the piano and begin to identify the letter names of notes on the piano. For advanced learners we may even read some basic sheet music and rhythms! We’ll also improvise a duet together on the piano and learn the proper hand position.
Lesson 11+We’ll grow to ease-fully play music you love (classical, pop, rock! Whatever you like) and we will hone in on musicianship skills like dynamics, tempo, swing, groove etc.
Lesson 4-10We’ll grow to play 2 hands together and read sheet music with ease! We’ll play games for reading music and rhythms if you are a young beginner (or an adult who loves game-ified learning!)
Lesson 2-3We’ll begin to play simple songs and improvised duets, and continue to learn sheet music reading. Some learners may want to learn their favorite pop songs melodies right away and we can dive into that together! I’ll follow your interests and excitement and we’ll learn the songs you love.
What you need to bringIf I come to you please have a piano or keyboard for us to use!
What I can bringI’ll bring an iPad for piano games if you want to play them in your lesson! A wood block and mallets for young learners for rhythm work. Markers for young learners for theory activities. If you come to my home studio I have a piano for us to use!
