About your piano coach
If you've wanted to learn how to play piano, look no further. Ever since kindergarten, I have been playing piano. I've played in various musical productions, recitals, and even for jazz bands. My name is Brandon Hunter Smith, and if you wish I can teach you the basics of music reading, songwriting, and techniques. For the musical theatre kids I also offer acting/drama coaching and audition practice material.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe start with where we are at; learning WHAT the thing is (piano). White Keys/Black Keys, Notes, Scales, Finger Position, etc. We have to know what these things are first before we can play them
Lesson 11+We’ve learned the basics, now we can begin learning songs and pieces to test out all this new knowledge!
Lesson 4-10We start to explore other keys, and focus on changing finger positions now that we have CMaj done. We begin to explore new keys and scales based on everything we’ve done.
Lesson 2-3It’s all about homing the knowledge. Everyone learns instruments differently. So, we start with the building blocks of scales and chords in CMaj. a few exercises in that key is exactly how I started.
Youth players
Working with kidsIf the children aren’t having fun then I’m not having fun. Fun always comes first because music is fun!
Working with teenagersI ask them what they hope to get out of learning, I often find that with teens they are the ones who knows what’s best. Teens want to be treated like adults so I give them some autocracy in their lesson on what goals they want to set.
