About your piano coach

Music has been the soundtrack to my life as an instrumentalist and singer of 20+ years, and for 4 years, I've had the privilege of sharing that passion through teaching piano and clarinet. As a music composer, songwriter, and producer, I bring a unique blend of technical expertise and creative insight to each lesson, helping students of all ages and levels find their musical voice. I get pumped about Christian/Gospel music and classical music. It's my pleasure to dig deep with anyone interested in improvisation, songwriting, composition, or theory. Let's embark on a rewarding musical journey together!

Deanna
I took piano lessons with Desiree for about two years. I distinctly remember that within 6 months, she was able to help me reach some of my goals that I had been trying to reach for years. She gave very practical advice that helped and encouraged me to practice more often. Due to Desiree's degree in music composition and wealth of experience, she was able to answer pretty much any question that I had regarding music theory, harmony, vocal parts, etc. I was so blessed by working with Desiree and I am a better musician for it!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGet an overview of the piano, learn your first warmups, get an idea of what you should do outside of our lessons to see the most progress, and discuss your goals as a musician and pianist.
Lesson 11+Learn more advanced warmups and pieces and more theory unless theory was a primary goal mentioned in the first lesson.
Lesson 4-10Address weak areas and be encouraged to stay focused on your goals. Continue to get familiar with piano and its context in music.
Lesson 2-3Play with a metronome and play your first song if we didn't get to that in the first lesson, get tips on staying accountable to your goals, and establish more working knowledge about the piano.

Youth players
Working with kidsI encourage them to learn new things that seem hard by breaking things down into small manageable parts.

Working with teenagersI challenge teenagers to develop their ear training and not just focus on playing the right notes at the right time.

What you need to bringNotebook, pencil, folder/binder for music, sheet music, books, device to read music or use music apps

What I can bringPiano, book recommendations, speakers, metronome, tuner, music stand, other music equipment like microphones
