About your pickleball coach

As a passionate and experienced PPR certified pickleball instructor, I’ve had the privilege of coaching several hundred players over the past two years—from first-timers as young as 8 to active adults in their late 80s. My mission is to help every student thrive on the court by developing strong technical skills, game strategy, effective teamwork, and mental resilience. With certifications as a Personal Trainer, Registered Dietitian, and Registered Nurse, I bring a unique, holistic approach to training. My lessons are fully customized to meet each client’s goals, whether that’s mastering a consistent dink, sharpening reaction time, or building power and stamina for competitive play. I integrate principles of fitness—including agility, flexibility, strength, and endurance—to help players reach their peak potential safely and efficiently. Beyond pickleball, I’ve trained athletes across a spectrum of sports and ages—from elementary school runners to national-champion ultimate frisbee players, Ironman triathletes, ultra-marathoners, and Spartan race competitors. As a Dietitian, I also provide performance-focused nutrition coaching, helping players fuel effectively for energy, focus, and optimal recovery. Whether you're picking up a paddle for the first time or preparing for your next tournament, I’d love to help you elevate your game—and enjoy every step of the journey.

Brian Elliott has been my pickleball instructor for nearly two years. I estimate I've been in his YMCA class about 150 times, and maybe 10 more private group lessons. Brian is a patient teacher, encouraging, and attentive to detail. He also keeps the pickleball enterprise at the Y running smoothly, even though older players like me can be cantankerous.

Brian E. is passionate about pickleball. It shows in his instruction. He takes the time to analyze and teach specific skills for each individual. Brian is patient and personable. He does a fantastic job working with all levels of pickleball players. He was especially encouraging to me after I returned to pickleball after a terrible eye trauma. Brian was able to teach me skills to compensate for my vision impairment and enjoy the game again!

It is with great pleasure that I serve as a reference for Brian Elliott. Brian has been my pickleball instruction for over a year and a half and he has provided individual and group lessons which I have attended. I attend lessons several teams a week. My pickleball journey began after I had foot surgery. I was not able to engage in physical activities during that time. When I was ready, I went to my local YMCA and was introduced to Brian and my journey began. Because Brian has a background in strength, balance, and endurance instruction, and he knows what is needed to play pickleball. While I started learning the sport, he continued to build my balance and strength so I could play the game. Brian has made me fall in love with the game! I started lessons never having played the game. He teaches the rules, demonstrated how to hit the ball, and how to move on the court. My journey continues. His individual and groups lessons have been wonderful. Brian uses a variety of tools to practice top spin and ball control. The most beneficial part of our lessons is his knowledge and love of the game. If you are looking for a person to teach pickleball, Brian would be a great addition. He is knowledgeable and can instruct many levels from beginners to advanced. He has a great personality and make all his students feel good about their progress.

Brian Elliott introduced me to pickle ball last year with lessons at my local YMCA. I worked with him in both larger class settings as well as in small group sessions. He is a great instructor: knowledgeable, patient, encouraging and always ready to provide helpful and constructive pointers that make me a better player. He has the ability to handle players at different levels from beginner to advanced and do it so all of us are improving and enjoying it.

I’ve trained with Brian for about 18 months in pickleball and have definitely noticed a marked improvement in my skills. His gift is to understand that by becoming a better player you need to have a balance of other exercises as well. Stretching and strength training run hand in hand with having less injuries when you are playing a sport. Pickeball does have a higher incidence of injuries for older people so Brian teaches us the best ways to prevent it.

Brian Elliott, the Pickleball instructor at the YMCA in Scottsdale is a real pleasure to work with and to learn from. Our beginners class is one to look forward to each each week and Brian‘s positive attitude makes it so. He encourages and leads his students to feel comfortable and progress to the next step. After two years of classes, he still makes it fun.
