After my trial lesson with Cal, I have to say it was quite a helpful experience. He’s really knowledgeable about the sport and took the time to explain the rules clearly, which was great since I’m pretty new to pickleball. He carefully pointed out where my serves were off and showed me simple adjustments. Still, I hope to figure out a trick to serve more consistently to the target point in future lessons. Would be nice to practice more, but I’m optimistic about what’s ahead, Cal seems genuinely invested in helping trainees improve.

The practice and drills from my lesson with Cal were pretty thorough, and I feel quite comfortable with what we covered, though I suppose repetition helps build confidence. Still, I think sticking with this approach could really help me integrate the techniques into my game naturally, and I like that he’s attentive to the details. If you’re looking to get more familiar with the fundamentals, it might be worth trying Cal for your next lesson.

Cal is a great coach and his lesson definitely highlighted some useful techniques I hadn't fully grasped before. Though I still have work to do on consistency, I'm hopeful that with more practice I can incorporate the tips he shared. Honestly, his approach feels quite practical and tailored, which I appreciated. Still, I think continuing with these lessons could really make a difference for my game. I’d suggest giving Cal a try if you're serious about improving your pickleball skills.

The lesson with Cal was quite thorough. I appreciated how patient he was in explaining everything, especially since I wanted to focus more on my posture and understanding the rules. Though I still need to refine some details, like my stance during volleys, the lesson provided solid guidance that I can build on. Still, I’m optimistic about future lessons and shaping my game further with his help. Seems like a good way to get better at pickleball if you’re serious about improving.

Hmm, my recent lesson with Cal was quite helpful. I especially appreciated the focus on footwork and shot placement. Though there's still some room to improve, I feel more confident about my control on the court. Still, I'm looking forward to more lessons to really hone my skills. If you're considering trying a lesson, Cal's approach is straightforward and understood. Highly recommended.

The lesson with Cal was quite helpful, especially since he really focused on some key techniques I had been struggling with. Though I still need to practice those areas, I left feeling more confident about my game. It was a balanced experience, and the lesson highlight about foot positioning really stood out. Still, more targeted drills might push my skills even further, but I think trying another lesson with Cal could be a good way to keep improving.

How it works

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonObjective: Comfort with equipment, rules, and rally basics. 1. Warm-up & intro (5–10 min) • Grip (continental/eastern handshake grip) • Safety & court layout (kitchen line, sidelines, service area) 2. Basic rules (10 min) • Scoring (understanding 0-0-2) • Double bounce rule • Kitchen rule 3. Fundamentals (20 min) • Ready position & paddle up • Basic forehand and backhand groundstrokes (short rallies from service line) • Serving technique (underhand serve, cross-court) 4. Play practice (15–20 min) • Cooperative rally: keep ball going • Try serving & returning • Mini-game: first to 5 points (coach assists to keep play flowing)
Lesson 11+Objective: Confidence, tactics, and competitive play. 1. Consistency under pressure • Longer dink rallies (patience drills) • Defensive lobs & resets 2. Offense & defense strategy • Attacking weak dinks • Defending against hard drives • Resetting pace with soft shots 3. Court positioning • Transitioning from baseline to kitchen • Partner movement (staying even at the line) 4. Game play focus • Work on patterns: serve–return–third–move up • Situational games (only score on drops, or only net play allowed)
Lesson 2-3Objective: Consistent serve/return, intro to net play. 1. Review & warm-up • Grip & stance refresh • Short cooperative rallies 2. Serve & return • Accuracy practice (target zones) • Depth focus on return of serve 3. Dinks (soft shots at kitchen line) • Introduce purpose: control, patience • Practice dink rallies across net 4. Game-like play • Serve–return–third shot pattern drill • Modified games (half court, drop-feed starts)
