About your pickleball coach

For over 25 years, I've been immersed in the world of tennis. On top of that, my love for table tennis has kept me engaged for nearly four decades, and I'm still at it. A few years ago, I embraced a new challenge: pickleball. I've since competed in various tournaments in Virginia, both in singles and mixed doubles categories. Just in 2023, I proudly clinched 5 medals – 2 in singles and 3 in mixed doubles. Beyond the thrill of the game, I have a passion for teaching and connecting with new people. Sharing my knowledge and experiences with others is what keeps me going.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson will assess the student’s current level to tailor a personalized program that promotes rapid, noticeable progress. Together, we’ll set specific, measurable goals and establish a clear plan to reach them. First-session checklist (step-by-step): Welcome and brief interview (goals, experience, any injury history). Quick skill snapshot (grips, stance, rally consistency) with demonstration. Baseline assessment (short rally test, serve accuracy, dinking ability). Personalized plan creation (short- and long-term goals, target milestones, practice assignments). Safety and equipment check (shoes, court awareness, warm-up routine). Quick warm-up and demonstration of 2–3 foundational drills. Debrief and schedule next session with a progress review method.
Lesson 11+Advanced rally control and shot variety Objective: Maintain high rally counts with varied shots (lobs, flat drives, soft dinks). Drills: Progressive rally with shot variation; target zones for different shot types. Focus: Keep pace steady, read partner’s cues, balance aggression with control. Lesson: Mixed patterns and disguise Objective: Add deceptive movements and mixed patterns to outmaneuver opponents. Drills: Pattern remix with alternative sequences; partner calls for a pattern switch mid-rally. Focus: Timing, footwork, keeping ball in play while changing pace. Lesson: Serve + pressure return pressure Objective: Serve with placement while producing challenging returns. Drills: Serve to zones followed by aggressive returns from the receiver; switch roles. Focus: Consistency under pressure, posture, and recovery. Lesson: Net pressure and defense Objective: Sustain net pressure while defending from offensive waves. Drills: Quick transitions to net; defender applies controlled returns to force mistakes. Focus: Positioning, quick hands, and reset options. Lesson: Spin mastery and variation Objective: Introduce more spin varieties on serves and returns. Drills: Spin serve sequences; return reads with spin cues; spacing to handle spin. Focus: Reading spin, adjusting grip, and tracking contact point. Lesson: Patterns to finish under live play Objective: Translate patterns into finishing sequences during live points. Drills: Live points emphasizing pattern application; coach stops to highlight successful finishes. Focus: Decision-making under pressure, shot selection, and tempo control. Lesson: Tournament strategy and mindset Objective: Apply skills in short-format matches with strategic planning. Drills: Quick-round robin or mini-tournaments; match planning with pre-point cues. Focus: Mental toughness, communication with partner, and score awareness.
Lesson 4-10Serve consistency & returns Objective: Accurate serves; dependable returns. Drills: Target Serves; Return Drills; Serve-Return Rally. Progress Check: Serve accuracy; return depth.
