About your pickleball coach
Darryl is not just a knowledgeable pickleball coach—he specializes in personalizing lessons to fit each student’s unique learning style. A former Middle School Science Teacher of the Year (2017), Darryl has a talent for customizing lessons that meet the individual needs of his students. Before transitioning to pickleball, he was an avid racquetball player, and now he’s fully immersed in pickleball, playing over five times a week. When he's not on the court, Darryl is analyzing his own game recordings or studying techniques through YouTube videos. With a positive, upbeat coaching style, Darryl is dedicated to building his students' confidence and ensuring they have fun while making real progress.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonDeveloping a proper student/coaching relationship is vital. Prior to our first lesson, the student will complete a short student questionnaire in order for me to understand the background and learning style of the student. The student will also begin to develop their purpose and goals as they invest in their pickleball game.
Our first lesson would be an assessment of student's current knowledge of the game and overall pickleball fitness level. Based on observation of the student, we'll begin to develop fundamental pickleball habits that will carry on to future sessions. We will begin our pickleball to paddle journey with proper grip and dinks.
Lesson 11+Lessons 11+ will go into more advanced skills and strategies on the pickleball court while reinforcing the skills learned from previous lessons. Depending on student progression, we'll look at speed ups, stroke mechanics (top spin/slice) counters, ernes, and partner synergy. By this point, we hope to get you registered in your first tournament.
Lesson 4-10Our next few lessons will then focus on a variety of shots and skills that define pickleball: the "third shot", punch and roll volleys, transition, resets, overheads, and lobs. We'll also hit on the "chess" and more strategic aspect of pickleball with shot selection while reinforcing skills learned in prior lessons.
Lesson 2-3Our next couple of lessons will focus on the game as a whole with an emphasis on serves and returns. We are ingraining proper habits with footwork and positioning and learning how the first shot (serve) and second shot (return) set's us up for winners and side outs.
What you need to bringPlease bring water, a towel, your paddle of choice, and court shoes.
What I can bringDarryl will provide the balls and demo paddles if needed.
