About your pickleball coach

I am a high school teacher who thoroughly enjoys playing pickleball. I started playing pickleball around 2020, and I've participated in multiple clinics with 5.0 and pro players. I've played in multiple leagues, and I've competed in about 10 tournaments throughout Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I am a certified instructor for the International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association (IPTPA), and I love helping other players improve their skills.

Drew was very easy to understand on what I needed work on. He watches and gives feedback on what you need to work on. He also shows the foot work and placement for the ball to keep the component moving. Had a great time working with him. Thank you Drew!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIntroduction & Fundamentals Players learn the court layout, scoring basics, and rules, along with proper grip, stance, and footwork. They practice simple forehand and backhand groundstrokes and begin rallying cooperatively without focusing on net play.
Lesson 11+Advanced Play & Competitive Situations The emphasis shifts to advanced shot selection, resets, and speed-ups, along with doubles formations, anticipation, and adapting strategies. Players refine their mental game and practice through tournament-style play, focusing on confidence, patience, and decision-making under pressure.
Lesson 4-10Core Skills & Strategy Players develop essential strokes such as dinks, volleys, third-shot drops, lobs, and overheads while learning court positioning and net play. They practice crosscourt and cooperative rallies, serve–return–third shot progressions, and partner communication, gradually moving from cooperative to competitive play.
Lesson 2-3Serving & Return of Serve Focus is on developing a legal, consistent underhand serve and a deep, controlled return of serve. Players learn the double-bounce rule, practice serve-and-return drills, and begin short rallies that always start with a serve sequence.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAssessment & Advanced Foundations Players review grip, stance, and movement to identify habits to refine. Focus is on shot consistency, footwork efficiency, and quick resets, with drills that simulate high-paced rallies to establish a performance baseline.
Lesson 11+Competitive Play & Advanced Strategy Players work on stacking formations, mixed-doubles adjustments, speed-ups at the kitchen, and situational point play. Mental toughness, momentum control, and adapting to different play styles are reinforced through tournament-style matches, tactical challenges, and high-intensity drills simulating competitive pressure.
Lesson 4-10Offensive & Defensive Mastery Training covers third-shot drives vs. drops, counter-attacks, advanced volley techniques, and the art of the reset under pressure. Players refine transition footwork, master lobs and overhead counters, and learn to disguise shots. Emphasis is placed on constructing points with intentional shot selection and anticipating opponent patterns.
Lesson 2-3Precision Serving & Returns Advanced serving strategies are introduced, including spin, deception, and placement to force weaker returns. Players practice aggressive and strategic returns designed to set up third-shot opportunities, with drills emphasizing depth and directional control.

Youth players
Working with teenagersWhen I coach teenagers in pickleball, I balance skill work with fun, competitive drills. I keep the energy high, emphasize sportsmanship, and use real-game situations to build their confidence and decision-making.
