Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGet them familiar with the court and basic rules of the game. Help them understand how to play so they can play with friends. Teach them how to hold paddle, how to swing and where to make contact.
Lesson 11+Working on what weaknesses are. If it’s quicker hands establishing a drill for that. Work on driving the ball and getting topspin. Work on drops and aggressive dinking. Work on strategy.
Lesson 4-10Focusing on getting to the kitchen and the transition zone. Footwork as well as working on drops and getting to the kitchen. Playing some games where they have to work on getting into the kitchen line. One person at kitchen line other at baseline. From kitchen you keep person back. From baseline have to work on coming up.
Lesson 2-3Working on beginner shots. Focusing on dinks, serves and returns. Working a little bit on volleys as well. Cross court dinks and then down the line dinks. Aim for a target.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonGet a gauge of how advanced you are. I’m a 5.4+ in doubles and singles but have been hurt for a bit so my dupr dropped. See if they want to work on singles or doubles and figure out what their weaknesses and strengths are.
Lesson 11+Play games with handicap. They can’t use strength or can only drive or only drop. So they focus on what they have to work on. Continue to drill as well. For singles more transitioning and conditioning. For doubles more hands and court positioning and resets and dinks.
Lesson 4-10Work on more aggressive serves and returns. Deep serves and aggressive returns for singles. Incorporate some point play.
For doubles, deep serves and deep returns. Work on where to dink, Ernie’s, how to reset.
Lesson 2-37-11. Keep players back and one at net. Player at net has to win 11 player in back has to win 7.
For singles work on cardio. Feed them balls backhand and forehand. Side to side. Put up another string on the net and make them aim in a certain area. Keep the drives low.
Youth players
Working with kidsMaking sure they’re having fun and understanding what you are saying. Positive reinforcement. Making things as simple as possible.
Working with teenagersChallenge them. Push them because they might not know how great they can be. Encourage them while pushing them. Set goals for the lesson and expectations.
What you need to bringNeed students to bring proper shoes, paddle and proper clothing.
What I can bringI have pickleballs and cones. If need be I can provide paddles as well.
