About your singing coach

Creating a joyful learning experience is my mantra. As a dedicated music educator, I cultivate a relaxed environment where making mistakes is part of the journey, and experimentation is encouraged. Students should leave each session feeling confident in themselves and their abilities. My educational journey, from studying Bel Canto operatic singing at Queensborough Community College to exploring diverse styles at Berklee College of Music, has equipped me to offer students a comprehensive foundation to sing any song in any style. Join me in discovering the joy of singing while building a solid musical skill set that lasts a lifetime. For more examples of my singing and to get to know me more, feel free to listen to my music and hear me on social media.

Julia is a phenomenal instructor. So knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. She instilled a level of confidence in my singing ability and I feel like I improve so much after each lesson. Cannot recommend her enough.

Even though I am a Professional Singer Julia helps keep me on track with new vocal work outs and maintains a healthy voice. She keeps me on my toes yet keeps me grounded during lessons
Mary P
I got these lessons for my daughter. It has been amazing to watch her voice develop and watch her confidence grow. Julia will help with high school and college auditions.
Malcom H
I came to Julia with some specific goals about increasing rang. Within my first lesson she helped me achieve that goal. I booked another lesson immediately.
Jennifer G
Julia shows great respect to her students. She takes on the attitude that teachers and students are equal and can learn from each other.
Mandy R
I’ve studied singing since I was little. I had a strong foundation but I still learned new tricks and was kept in great shape by Julia

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe get to know each other and set some goals musically and vocally. We ease into singing by starting with posture, talking about singing concepts, some light stretches, breathing, humming and then finally singing. This first lesson is about getting comfortable and assessing what goals we want to set. You will leave having information about your range, strengths, tips, and feeling confident about your voice. We end every lesson with singing a song of your choice and working on our repertoire.
Lesson 11+Feeling confidant about about completing and executing vocal and musical goals. By lesson 11 you will have 3-5 songs in your repertoire that you feel confident about and feel connected and empowered to because you will have found your authentic, expressive, healthy, technical and creative voice that is unique to you!
Lesson 4-10By lessons 4-10 we will be working towards proficiency in our origional goals, while stretching vocal range, dynamics, and maintaining our vocal health. By this time we may have a new set of goals.
Lesson 2-3By the second lesson I'll have a customized vocal warm up and exercises that address your personalized singing needs. I keep track of lesson progress through notes and after lesson summaries on the app. We will be perfecting and working on feeling good about that original song we chose to work on.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonEven the most advanced students, the most famous singers in the world, they all have teachers. For some advanced students taking lessons may just be about having a place and time to have structured practice of new concepts. There's always room to grow. For lessons of all levels and ages generally have the same lesson outline; we get into posture, lightly stretch, focus on breathing, humming, singing, reflecting on past goals and end with working on our rep. However as an advanced student if you already warmed up and want to spend the whole time focusing on your set for your big show, things will be more flexible. The first lesson is all about getting to know each other, easing into things, assessing strengths and setting goals. Also for more advanced players, more music theory and ear training drills are practiced. There are things like, "what are the fundamentals of singing" that I will randomly quiz you on! In a fun no pressure way of course. But I do hold more advanced students more accountable for more general music knowledge and not just vocal fundamentals.
Lesson 11+By lesson 11 my goal is for you to have met yours, and have feel no mental blockages surrounding singing. I want you to feel totally confidant in calling yourself a vocalist. Depending on where you are, if you don't have one you will have a full set of song you can perform and feel good about where you are career wise as well. For advanced players who take lessons to help them professionally in their careers I also keep track and help with making sure that those goals are being set and accomplished and important as well. By this time you will have found your authentic, healthy, and unique voice you can fully express yourself with.
Lesson 4-10By this time we should see improvement in our original goals set, and perhaps are stretching further to create new ones. We will also have added a song or two to our rep. I keep track of progress through my notes and through lesson summaries sent through the messages on the app.
Lesson 2-3After our first lesson I will develop a customized warm up that directly addresses the goals set in the first lesson. By this time we will have gotten that first song to a place you feel good about.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with children it's important to keep things fun. I create structure by having a routine each lesson; getting into posture, light stretching, breathing exercises, humming and some vocal exercises. I end every lesson with a song of the students choice, but I am able to offer more guidance in that area for kids if necessary. I am very gentle and sensitive to people of all ages and understand the responsibility not just to teach kids music properly but to be emotionally sendative to children. A bad experience with a teacher can be the difference between choosing music as a profession or never singing again.

Working with teenagersI love working with teenagers because when I was a teen I needed a place to comfortable express myself and my voice, without fear of judgment and the ability to ask all the questions I want, to experiment and feel free to sing my heart out. In a lot of lessons I had teachers would make me feel constricted, not able to ask questions or do thing with my voice I could do alone. I stride to create a comfortable environment to study, learn and try new things healthfully. Also, having gone through the college process and am proud to say that I got into my dream school, Berklee College of Music that I could guide them through and prepare them for that process.
