I excel in teaching both classical and popular vocal techniques, encompassing genres like pop, rock, metal, modern, and musical theater. With a decade of professional singing experience and 12 years of teaching, I'm dedicated to nurturing aspiring vocalists and helping them discover their unique sound. I went to college with Tom as a percussion major, and He helped me survive my vocal pedagogy class. I mostly sing rock music now, and it's a lot easier than the classical music we had to work on in undergraduate, but I've worked with Tom since whenever I have trouble with a piece and he's always able to de-mystify the technical stuff and stop me from over singing.

Tom was great for helping me understand the way my voice works and helping me understand what music would be good for me. I mostly sing musical theater and even though Tom is an opera singer, he was still able to teach me how to do the things I needed to do to get through some hard pieces like Glory from Rent.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI generally spend the first lesson assessing and discussing the students experience and comfort with singing, finding their vocal range, and discussing goals.
Lesson 11+Continued development, new music, refinement of technique.
Lesson 4-10Usually around lesson 4 is where I like to start splitting the lesson between singing technique and working on songs, but again singing is a different journey for everyone and this is a loose timeline.
Lesson 2-3Generally this is going to be mostly technical work while we develop comfortable singing and breathing techniques, but every student is different.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI generally spend the first lesson assessing and discussing the students experience and comfort with singing, finding their vocal range, and discussing goals.
Lesson 2-3I generally like to start working on music for the second half of the lesson after the introductory lesson, but different students will need different things and this is not requisite.
What you need to bringSinging doesn't require much in the way of equipment, but if you'd like to work on music with a karaoke track I encourage you to be prepared with one (YouTube is a GREAT resource!) Alternatively, please have two copies of sheet music with you if we're working off the page.
Garments that restrict mobility or breathing are not recommended.
What I can bringWhether we're working out of my apartment or a midtown studio, there will be a keyboard instrument available for exercises. I can also offer suggestions on sheet music and can provide PDFs of music in my library.
