Lucy
Matt is a good instructor, he helps prepare me for choir practice and performances. We practice a lot on my songs and the music I like.
Patty
Matt is helping me with my confidence and I'm hoping soon to get a solo in my choir. Thank you my friend for being a dedicated instructor.
Dale
I would recommend Matt Carmichael to be your vocal coach, he gives the proper support and guidance to different levels of singers. He is a singer-songwriter and has tons of experience performing live.
Charles
Matt taught voice lessons out of our church and helped lead a few music services when the organist was absent. He has a good voice and we especially appreciated his help getting the mens section back up to par.
Andrea
After a few lessons, he had taught me all the basics of how to stand and breathe and we worked a lot on how to project my voice. Matt spent years in school and church choir and works well with different types of singers, I discover that I'm an alto and have learned so much already.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe start by talking about the student and their interests in taking voice lessons. I take them through some breathing exercises and vocal warm ups and then some stretches to loosen up the head/neck and shoulders. We get into the basics of singing: how to stand, how to breathe and when, how to project and how to discern between the head voice and chest voice. We start to find out what your voice can do with continued training and new confidence. My homework for you is to pick five songs that you want to learn and practice. They can be original songs or covers but pick songs that match your style and vocal abilities. If you're in choir or in a band we can practice your songs so that you feel more confident and prepared for your performance.

How it works
We will warm up and prepare as usual. We'll continue working on the songs you chose. Homework for the future: always be planning for your next song or your next show. Be looking forward to playing with different artists and supporting them by going to their shows. Learn by doing and practice. Don't be afraid to mess up until you no longer mess up.
Lesson 4-10We will warm up and prep ourselves to sing and continue working on the challenges of singing and how to preserve your voice for long sets. If you want to learn more than the five songs we can add as many as you like.
Lesson 2-3We review exercises and warm ups each week. We'll go through the process of how to prepare and train like a vocalist. We'll work through the five songs each week until you feel confident singing them in public.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWarm up, exercise and drill. We review the basics and then dive into working on the songs you choose. I'm your vocal coach and will be there to help you improve and keep you moving forward. I'll help you prepare for your next performance or just to feel more confident going out to sing karaoke with your friends. I got your back Jack!
Lesson 11+Warm up, exercise and drill. Hopefully by now we have mastered all or most of your songs and you're ready to perform. If you haven't guessed by now, being a serious vocalist requires a commitment to improving your health and wellness overall. I'm happy to be a long-term vocal coach and will always there for my students and aim to provide guidance and a positive experience.
Lesson 4-10Warm up, exercise and drill. We spend most of the time working on your songs.
Lesson 2-3Warm up, exercise and drill. We work on the songs you choose. Pick at least five or more to practice, original or covers.

What you need to bringNo equipment needed, just make sure you drink plenty of water and rest your voice the night and day before practice.

What I can bringI have all the equipment needed for vocal and guitar lessons. However, students are welcome to bring guitars or other musical instruments if they want to learn how to incorporate them into vocal performances.
