Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFirst lesson I will introduce the basics on how the voice works —it’s an instrument that can be broken down into three parts— what to expect during lessons, and then get to know what you want out of lessons and your experience.
Lesson 11+We continue strengthening whatever area of focus for the vocal instrument (air support, vocal fold dexterity, or resonance space shaping) and spend more time on our song at the end of the lesson. Everyone moves at their own pace, so I support you accordingly!
Lesson 4-10You’re getting more comfortable with the vocal exercises. You’re feeling slightly clearer on the different parts of your instrument and how to simply relax into it. A lot of singing is allowing your body to lead —we talk with a lot of good vocal technique actually!— instead of your ear or anxiety. We’ve picked a song of your choice and we have a little time at the end to work on it.
Lesson 2-3We will start practicing vocal exercises where we develop breath control, vocal fold dexterity, and resonance space shaping of the mouth and throat cavity. I will guide you through this development on the piano! And I will model what you should sound like.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI want to get the download on your training and what coaching style you’ve seen that you’ve liked in the past. I do a vocal assessment and you perform two songs of choice for me (one fast and slow tempo song). We set goals for your vocal training and if we have time, go through some vocal exercises!
Lesson 11+If the singer shows great comfort in ease with the vocal exercises, and their songs are sounding powerful and as the singer desires, we reduce frequency of lessons or push outside of the genre for more challenging or new technique!
Lesson 4-10As technique cleans up and the singer is performing with more ease, we move to more and more time on working on the song of choice. We work on breath support, diction, performance, and vowel shapes, to name a few.
Lesson 2-3We will focus training on trouble area of the voice (whether resonance space, pitch, or breath support). Most of the initial lessons are focused on these exercises. At the last half or quarter of the lesson, we work on your song of choice!
Youth players
Working with teenagersTeenagers are at this amazing development stage where they are discovering their life long passions. It’s also a critical period of time for singers who want to pursue careers in the arts. I work to keep a balance of fun and growth that is adapted to each teenager! If they want to be the next Sabrina Carpeneter, then I will push them accordingly. If they simply want to explore their voice and have fun, then I will keep lessons light and easy! Regardless, it’s important to keep the experience positive, so they develop into confident young adults.
