Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFirst Lesson: How do you approach the first lesson with a beginner? The first lesson with a beginner should be welcoming and engaging. It's important to start by building trust and understanding the player's comfort level with the game. Focus on basic skills such as dribbling, passing, and simple ball control. Make sure the session is fun and interactive, keeping the pressure low while introducing fundamental concepts. Emphasize positive feedback and ensure the player feels comfortable asking questions.
Lesson 11+Lessons 11+: What can a beginner expect from their remaining lessons? In the later stages, the beginner will start refining techniques and focusing on tactical awareness. These lessons will involve more game-like situations, allowing the player to improve decision-making, speed, and positioning. Expect a heavier focus on match-specific scenarios, such as defending 1v1, creating goal-scoring opportunities, and managing different phases of play. Fitness will continue to be a focus, as well as mental resilience to handle game pressure.
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10: What can a beginner expect from their fourth through tenth lessons? By lessons 4-10, the beginner should feel more comfortable with basic techniques. At this stage, we'll focus on improving fitness, coordination, and more advanced skills like ball control under pressure, long passes, and learning about formations and team dynamics. The player will begin to understand the tactical aspects of the game, such as positioning during an attack or defense. We'll also start playing more structured games to simulate match conditions, emphasizing teamwork and strategy.
Lesson 2-3Lessons 2-3: What can a beginner expect from their second and third lessons? In lessons 2 and 3, we start to reinforce the basics learned in the first lesson, like improving dribbling and introducing shooting drills. We'll work on passing accuracy and simple tactical awareness (like positioning when attacking or defending). The beginner can expect more repetition of skills to build confidence, as well as introducing small-sided games to apply skills in a more dynamic environment. These lessons should still feel fun and encouraging.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I focus on creating a fun, engaging, and positive environment to ensure they enjoy the experience while learning soccer fundamentals. I adapt my lessons to be interactive and use simple drills that help develop coordination, ball control, and basic techniques like dribbling and passing. I incorporate games and activities that maintain their attention, using a lot of praise and encouragement to build their confidence. The key is to keep things playful while still reinforcing basic soccer skills. The goal is to foster a love for the game, all while ensuring they understand the basics and have fun with their peers.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I focus on building both technical and tactical awareness, as they are often more serious about their development. I design lessons that challenge their skills and push them to improve in areas such as passing accuracy, shooting technique, ball control under pressure, and tactical decision-making. I make sure the training is more structured and competitive, encouraging them to think critically about their positioning on the field and their teamwork in game situations. I also incorporate feedback and discussions about how they can improve, empowering them to take ownership of their progress. My approach emphasizes building strength, speed, and stamina, as well as improving their mental resilience, which is important in the fast-paced environment of soccer.
