About your soccer coach

For three decades, I've fostered a love for soccer in athletes of all levels. I have coached for several local clubs, including Wake FC, Triangle Futbol Club and CASL (now NCFC). I've coached both boys and girls between the ages of 5-18. I understand the different, effective approaches to coaching based on gender and age. I appreciate feedback from parents and solicit information from players on how and why they want to improve. From there, I can tailor a training program to get the best out of the player.

Coach Randall wouldn’t let me give up on improving my left foot. Even in team practices he would focus drills and skills on improving everyone’s weakness

Coached me for 4 years as part of team and had the ability to make me get better and the team.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe beginner first needs to be comfortable with a ball at their feet. Talking size and feel. Simple tasks like toe taps, ball rolls and quick touches between feet using the instep will build that feel
Lesson 11+For these lessons it depends on their progress with the basics. Once there is comfort with the basic fundamentals, the foundation of being a confident player, we will accelerate the speed and complexity of drills so they no longer have to think, they just do. This includes a lot of training on being aware of your place on the pitch, working on different ways to create your own space.
Lesson 4-10At this level we will start approaching some juggling, passing and shooting. I do put an emphasis on training the weak foot and understand that can be frustrating for children, but I communicate why it’s important.
Lesson 2-3Once a player has control over the ball at their feet, we will explore using different parts of the feet. Instep, outside of the foot, bottom of the foot, even toe to some extent

Youth players
Working with kidsThe key with kids, both boys and girls, is to make the work fun and rewarding, while also being beneficial to their development.

Working with teenagersTeens can be tough because some feel they HAVE to play (whether friends or family pressure). The key is also finding the fine line between trying to be too fancy and neglecting the basics. The approach depends on the player and a lot of these lessons will be based on what their goal is.
