About your tennis coach

Hi, I’m Manuel Ramos, a passionate tennis coach originally from the Dominican Republic. I’ve been playing tennis since I was a young boy, and the sport has taken me on an incredible journey—including the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level as part of a varsity team here in Miami. With over a decade of experience, I’ve been coaching since I was 15, working with both kids and adults through one-on-one lessons and tennis camps. My approach combines the discipline of competitive play with a fun, personalized coaching style that helps players of all levels improve their game and enjoy the process. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to fine-tune your technique, I’m here to help you reach your tennis goals.

Lesson 2-3 • Reinforce proper technique (grip, swing path, foot positioning) • Introduce consistent rallying from baseline • Start working on the serve motion (grip, toss, contact point) • Intro to net play (volleys) and court positioning • Begin simple point play situations

Advanced training plan
Your first lesson • Technical assessment of all strokes (forehand, backhand, serve, volley, overhead) • Video analysis (if available) for stroke mechanics • Fine-tuning grip, swing path, footwork patterns • Establish baseline consistency and shot tolerance • Serve placement and spin variety
Lesson 11+ • Simulated match play with coaching interruptions • Match-specific preparation (pre-match routine, mindset) • Physical conditioning drills integrated with hitting • Game-day scenarios (tiebreakers, momentum shifts) • Tournament prep: goal setting and performance tracking
Lesson 4-10 • Court awareness: when to attack, defend, or neutralize • Shot selection in rally situations • Constructing points: patterns and opponent exploitation • Mental strategies for high-pressure points • Live point play with tactical feedback
Lesson 2-3 • Develop offensive & defensive topspin/slice • Transition game: approaching the net from baseline • Advanced volley drills: touch, angle, half-volleys • Return of serve: aggressive vs neutral returns • Serve + 1 and Return + 1 patterns

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen teaching kids, I adapt by keeping lessons playful, engaging, and easy to follow. At this stage, it’s all about building a positive relationship with the sport. I use fun games, colorful targets, and simplified instructions to teach basic movements, hand-eye coordination, and early tennis techniques. I adjust the court size, use softer balls, and make the drills feel like activities rather than formal training. The focus is on developing balance, timing, and basic strokes without overwhelming them. Most importantly, I create a positive, encouraging environment that helps them build confidence and stay motivated to learn.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I adapt by shifting to a more structured and goal-oriented approach. At this stage, players often begin forming their playing identity, so I tailor lessons to their personality, goals, and skill level—whether they’re casual players or aiming for competition. I place more emphasis on technique, strategy, and mental focus, while still keeping it interactive and challenging. I also give teens more responsibility in their development—such as discussing their strengths, areas for improvement, and helping them set personal goals. For those playing competitively, I simulate match scenarios, build stamina, and train them to stay composed under pressure.

What you need to bringClients should bring their own tennis racket (if they have one), water, and wear appropriate tennis shoes and comfortable athletic clothing.

What I can bringI bring all the essential equipment needed for players of every level, including tennis balls, cones, training aids, and a spare racket if needed.
