Coach Bailey has been a true blessing to have on our volleyball journey at Tougaloo College. From the very beginning, she’s been encouraging, supportive, and genuinely invested in each one of us, not just as athletes, but as individuals. She has a unique ability to connect with us on a personal level in a way that our head coach can't, and that connection has made such a difference in how we perform and how we feel as a team. She shows up every single day with a positive attitude, no matter what she may be dealing with in her own life. Her consistency, energy, and dedication are unmatched. She’s always on time, prepared, and fully engaged in helping us grow, not just physically on the court, but mentally and emotionally as well. Coach Bailey is our biggest cheerleader. She pushes us to be our best and never lets a moment go by without reminding us of how proud she is of us. Her passion for coaching and her love for the game and her players shine through in everything she does. She makes you want to show up, work hard, and believe in yourself. Any team would be lucky to have her, she’s truly one of a kind.

As a setter, I’ve learned a lot from Coach Bai about how to lead, not just play. She holds everyone accountable in a positive way and makes sure we understand our role in the full system. Practices with her are fast-paced, technical, and never boring. She always shows up for us, and I’m a stronger, smarter player because of it.

Coach Bai is an amazing assistant coach, she has the perfect balance of being encouraging and supportive while holding us accountable and always pushing us to improve. Her energy makes every practice fun and she always creates a good environment. I truly feel like a better player thanks to her guidance.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonBuild comfort, assess skills, and start with the basics. I start with a warm-up and light footwork drills to get their body moving and nerves settled. Then I walk through the fundamentals: proper hand placement for passing, ready position, and how to move to the ball. We’ll do basic passing drills like “Toss & Pass” to work on technique. I end with fun, low-pressure games so they leave confident and excited.
Lesson 11+Game strategy, confidence, and competitive reps. These sessions are tailored to their progress. We’ll run full court drills, mock games, work on mental toughness, court communication, and advanced movement. I focus on sharpening their strengths while fixing habits that hold them back.
Lesson 4-10Skill development, repetition, and game awareness. We’ll go deeper into serving (float serve, consistency), setting with accuracy, and introduce hitting footwork and arm swing mechanics. More team-based drills like “pepper,” serve receive rotations, and hitting lines. By lesson 10, they’ll feel ready to play in a real scrimmage!
Lesson 2-3Reinforce basics + introduce new skills. We’ll sharpen passing with more movement, then introduce setting and underhand serving. I’ll show form, then we drill with simple progressions. Each drill builds muscle memory and court awareness. We finish with mini games that combine the new skills—fun and functional.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAssess strengths, identify gaps, and set a tone. I start with a dynamic warm-up and quick skill eval through serve-receive, approach, and defensive footwork reps. I watch their timing, communication, and ball control in movement drills. We’ll run a fast-paced pepper series, then transition into serve + transition drills to test how they respond in game-like sequences. I’ll provide detailed feedback and we’ll set performance goals together based on their position and level.
Lesson 11+Game readiness, leadership, and mental performance. These sessions simulate match scenarios, run advanced serve receive patterns, and polish read-based defense. I’ll integrate clutch performance drills and train mental reset routines. I also mentor athletes on court leadership and collegiate prep if that’s part of their journey.
Lesson 4-10Competitive sharpness + position-specific mastery. At this stage we hone in on position roles: pin hitters polish approach variations and shots, setters work tempo and deception, liberos drill aggressive serve receive and pursuit defense. I include breakdown film (if available), reaction drills, and pressure reps like game-to-5 or one mistake = reset drills. Each session is intense, focused, and intentional.
Lesson 2-3Targeted skill development + efficiency under pressure. We refine mechanics in key areas (e.g., aggressive serving, blocking footwork, or off-speed hitting). Drills like 3-contact transition and out-of-system execution help sharpen decision-making. I challenge them with quick tempo drills and finish with score-based mini-games to increase accountability and pace.

Youth players
Working with kidsI keep it fun, encouraging, and active! My lessons for kids focus on building coordination, confidence, and a love for the game through movement-based games and simple drills. We use lighter volleyballs, visual demonstrations, and lots of positive reinforcement. I mix in relay-style challenges and team-based games to help them stay engaged while learning the basics like passing, movement, and teamwork.

Working with teenagersI adapt my coaching to meet them where they are — mentally and physically. For teens, I focus on building technical skill, competitive confidence, and game IQ. I create a space where they feel supported but also challenged. Whether they’re new to volleyball or aiming for the next level, we work on goal-setting, improving specific skills (like serving or approach mechanics), and understanding team dynamics. I also sprinkle in mentorship and life-skill talk because that age is all about growth, on and off the court.

What you need to bringStudents should wear athletic clothes, proper court or athletic shoes, and bring water. Knee pads are highly recommended for safety and comfort, especially during floor work or defense drills. If you have your own volleyball, you’re welcome to bring it, but it’s not required.

What I can bringI provide volleyballs, cones, and training tools like resistance bands or agility ladders when needed. I bring all the equipment necessary to run an effective session — you just bring the energy and focus!
