I’m Jared Cohen, assistant coach for PPA Top-10 pro James Ignatowich, Head Pro at Picklerage, and founder of “Cohen Academy,” my backyard court where I offer private lessons, clinics, and 3-and-a-Pro sessions. I hold a 5.52 DUPR in doubles (5.45 in singles) and 180 sanctioned tournament wins, and I’ve coached a US Open champion and a top junior PPA player. Originally a competitive tennis and ping pong player for 20 years, I’ve now been coaching pickleball intensively for 4 years. Currently the Director of Pickleball at The Paddle Lands Pickleball Club. From competing as a pro athlete to coaching for the past 5 years, I've dedicated my life to the exciting world of pickleball. From college and competitive tennis player and then finding pickleball. I’ve been teaching sports for over 25 years and so far this is the most fun due to the people I get to meet and work with. "I’ve been playing pickleball for a little over a year now, and working with Jeff Kinlaw has been the single biggest reason I went from a complete beginner to a consistent 3.25–3.5 level player. I came in with almost no background in racquet sports and a lot of bad habits, and Jeff built my game from the ground up in a way that was clearly tailored to me—not a one-size-fits-all lesson plan. What stood out immediately was how closely he watched how I actually played. Jeff didn’t just teach generic drills; he identified *my* tendencies—how I approached the kitchen line (or when I didn't) , how I handled dinks under pressure, when I rushed shots, not to mention my footwork, then he designed each lesson around fixing those specific issues. Every session had a purpose, and I always walked away knowing exactly what to work on before the next one. As my game developed, so did his coaching. When I was brand new, he focused on fundamentals: grip, footwork, shot selection, and understanding the geometry of the court. Once I started improving, he shifted to more advanced concepts like third-shot drops, soft resets, positioning, and reading opponents. That progression is what helped me break through the beginner plateau and start winning consistently against better players. Jeff is also excellent at explaining the *why* behind every shot. Instead of just telling me what to do, he helped me understand strategies, like when to speed up, when to slow down, how to create pressure without taking unnecessary risks. That understanding has made me far more confident and consistent in real games, not just in drills. If you’re serious about improving at pickleball, whether you’re brand new or trying to move up from intermediate to advanced, I can’t recommend Jeff highly enough. His coaching is thoughtful, individualized, and incredibly effective. A year ago I was just hoping to keep the ball in play. Now I’m a solid 3.25–3.5 player with a real, repeatable game, and that’s 100% because of Jeff’s coaching.

Baseball Career Highlights 2023 (Senior – CAC) First Team All-Continental Athletic Conference selection at shortstop. CAC Gold Glove winner at shortstop. Went 6-for-10 with six RBI and five runs scored in a series against No. 24 Taylor (Indiana) (Feb. 10–11, 2023). Posted a .424 batting average with 72 hits, including 20 multi-hit games. Scored 63 runs, drove in 45 runs, and successfully stole 20 bases. Helped team win the CAC Tournament title and advance to the NAIA Opening Round. Member of the squad that advanced to the 2023 Avista NAIA World Series. 2022 (Sophomore – Jacksonville University) Started 51 of 53 games, all at second base. Hit .251 with 47 hits and drew more walks (23) than strikeouts (20). Led the team in sacrifice hits (6) and helped turn 26 double plays. Recorded 10 multi-hit games and tied for second on the team with six multi-RBI games. Notched an eight-game hitting streak and an 11-game on-base streak. Dean’s List student. 2021 (Freshman – Jacksonville University) ASUN All-Freshman Team selection. Started all 49 games at second base. Hit .283 (4th on team) and ranked second with 23 RBI. Led team and ranked second in the ASUN with six sacrifice hits. Committed just four errors in 190 chances (.979 fielding percentage). Ended season with a 23-game on-base streak, 12 multi-hit games, and four multi-RBI games. Dean’s List student. High School (Cypress Bay HS – Weston, FL) Four-year varsity player. Led the team in home runs (3) as a junior. All-Conference performer as a senior. Helped lead team to a district championship in 2017. Played travel ball for Elite Squad.
