I have been a coach for 29 years. I am currently a high school softball coach and teacher. I have coach baseball and softball for over 20 years. I have trained on the select baseball and softball side as well. I am blessed to coach in a program where we work hard every week and our players all perform at a high level. We are ranked as one of the top high school programs in the state of Texas. I teach all skills related to the game as well as strength and conditioning programs that are related. I coach at East Central High School, we are a 6A-Division 1 program. My responsibilities include building practice schedules for our varsity and junior varsity teams as well as a focus on player development grades 9-12. I call all varsity level game pitches and focus on our program pitching staff. I coach all defensive positions as well as offensive and defensive strategies.

I’ve played volleyball since middle school and i’ve been through many different coaches and techniques and i’ve always learned what’s best for me and had a coach that helped me through a lot. I want to be that for someone who is just starting their journey. I’ve loved volleyball since 6th grade and I didn’t start very good, but I had persistence and I accomplished many goals and I did get very good at volleyball. It did take a lot of determination, but what I know is most important is not just the training , but the mentality. If I was allowed to be a coach, I would teach my players that as their coach not only am I here to grow as a player but as a person. If I were to coach a young group. I would start by teaching them building your skills it’s important, but so is messing up, messing up is what makes us who we are and teaches us to not beat ourselves up over a mistake in a sport we feel passionate about. I’ve learned many techniques. I was an outside hitter, but I also did play as a DS therefore, I know to teach diving the correct way, 3-step approaches, 4-step approaches, the correct way to swing at a ball, timing, reading a hitter, etc. I do think it’s important to incorporate it into gameplay after learning, if you didn’t I feel it’s harder to learn without. Local classically trained cellist Joe Galvan received his training from Dr. Christopher Haritatos, a member of the Rochester Philanthropic Philharmonic Orchestra and much more. See Rpo.org. Mr Galvan has been playing the cello since he was 13 years old. He received his BMA with a concentration in cello performance and minor in Psychology from Texas State University and has gone on to perform with many professional symphony orchestras in the central and south Texas regions. He also founded a local symphony called Symphony Viva where he served as Executive Director and personnel manager as well as section player. Many of his students have gone on to music performance careers as well as music education careers. His teaching technique is diverse and specialized for each students goals.
