Imagine getting to play the part of music that makes people dance. With 18 years of experience, I provide personalized guidance, helping you master techniques and unleash your musicality. Let's groove! I have been performing as a bassist for over 18 years, and teaching for over ten years. As an instructor, I meet students where they are and tailor my teaching approach accordingly. Lessons are collaborative; I want to get to know each student and your individual goals and learning style in order to create an open and comfortable learning environment. My extensive musical background allows you to choose music YOU like to play, and through each song we will work on specific technical, harmonic, and rhythmic concepts. I use my experience as an active working musician to inform the lessons and ground everything you learn in real-world application. About me: I tour the US and internationally with Future Teens, an indie rock band with over three LPs on our resume. Future Teens has been featured on NPR, The Boston Globe, and WBUR, and was Boston Music Awards’ 2019 Alt/Indie Artist of the Year. I studied bass performance at Berklee College of Music, where I earned the Bass Department Outstanding Performer Award and Scholarship. I have a BA in English and French from Skidmore College (‘13). I have worked with students between the ages of six and sixty and welcome students of all ages.
"Maya was a patient, kind and supportive guitar teacher. My daughter looked forward to her lessons each week, and left feeling confident. Maya was always open to Annabelle's ideas (hello, Taylor Swift!) and encouraged her to try new things. She is an accomplished musician and we were very sorry to see her go!

"Bjorn tailors your lessons to your needs: whether it's learning a new song, going through scales, music theory, etc. Whatever it is, ultimately he ties each lesson on how to make you a better musician overall. Personally, words aren't enough to describe Bjorn's love for teaching and his commitment as a teacher, but for someone who had never played bass before going to Bjorn and for someone looking to reignite my interest in music that I had as a kid, I got so much more out of my lessons with Bjorn than I expected. I've learned so much about music theory from Bjorn that I'm able to analyze songs from a theory standpoint, why songs work the way they do, and actually understand naming as well as how to build chords. Prior to this, I've done some guitar as a kid, but only ever looked up tabs which never really helped me grow as a musician. I've never really understood why chords were named the way they were and etc., I'd just memorize the fingerings. It was personally, for me, cause of Bjorn that I understand theory now and don't really look at songs the way I do anymore (in terms of just learning tabs). Bjorn has also helped me train my ear as a musician because I had only done tabs before (which never really helped me with my ear). Even more unexpectedly, we had even worked on reading exercises as well. Applying all this with songs that I wanted to go through with my lessons with Bjorn has helped me become much better as a musician from when I first started lessons. Additionally, working on improv exercises theory wise in a variety of genres has really opened up my eyes in terms of music. It's from these improv exercises that Bjorn has personally given me the confidence to venture out into song writing with coming up with my own riffs. More specifically about the bass side of the lessons, the exercises that Bjorn himself has used since he started playing bass (from slapping to drilling in the fundamentals of fingerings) has gotten me so much more comfortable with playing bass with where I am now compared to the first lesson I had. With Bjorn's knowledge and experience, he provides a welcoming environment to any student of any level. I honestly can't stress enough how far I've come since my first lesson, but I also just can't stress enough Bjorn's commitment to not just making you a better bass player, but a better musician overall. "Phil has been an amazing tutor to my daughter Ami for about 2 years or more. He connects greatly with her and is able to motivate her to do better! He is flexible with his schedule, always punctual and most importantly never wastes 1 minute of the lesson. He has supported my daughter to the point that she has won awards and ‘Battle of the Bands’ events and she is only 13 years old! Phil is extremely talented not only with music (he is in a band) but with building great rapport with his clients both personally and profesionally!

"I took bass lessons from DeRock years ago, and I still remember how encouraging and supportive he was. He made learning fun, taught me songs I enjoyed, and helped me build a solid foundation as a player. That foundation served me well throughout the 14 years I spent performing as a gigging musician. What stood out most was his patience and ability to explain things in a way that made sense. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a teacher who truly cares about helping students grow.

Played in lots of variety cover bands (all forms of rock, blues, pop, funk, country), original rock and metal bands and most recently Bollywood. I've done guest spots on albums and a few music videos. In addition to teaching between 30 and 50 students a week since 2011, but I've been teaching guitar since 2002. There's very little I haven't seen in the lesson room and I'm excited to get you working on your goals! I also enjoy helping students learn how to use their gear efficiently. Let's get you on your way!
""The amount of progress we've seen in our boys' musical abilities is huge in the time Seth has been their instructor. His level of patience and attention to detail while making the lessons fun and encouraging is a big factor! Nathan and Ryan always look forward to Seth coming here to teach and inspire them every week. I would highly recommend Seth to anyone interested in private music lessons as he is the best at what he does!"
