I played at both the college and professional levels in Brazil before moving to the United States in 2003, shortly after earning my degree in Economics from the Federal University of Viçosa. Since then, I’ve been living and coaching in the U.S. for over 20 years. I became a USSF-certified referee and coach in 2005 and have dedicated myself to training athletes of all ages and backgrounds ever since. "My son has been taking lessons from Marcello for last 3 years. On an average he takes minimum 5 weekly lessons in summer and minimum 5 in winter/early spring. We would love to take more but between club/school soccer practices and games it becomes difficult. My sons technique has improved tremendously. At a recent tryout for a premier club team, the coaches said that technically my son has all skills needed for his age group and that he is up there with the best players. As a soccer player and I love teaching specialist skills for specific positions. I have experience playing as an inverted outside back, and regular outside back. This position took me all the way from rec soccer through college soccer. I'm newer at coaching but work in the school system so I'm experienced working with kids. I aim to teach players who are looking to go into club soccer and transition from a recreational level. I have experience with this transition. This was a huge stress for me and understand how hard it can be for younger players to mentally and physically adjust. All in all, the change in the level of competition should not limit the amount of enjoyment you have on the field. I’m originally from Colombia and have played soccer since I was six years old, first coached by my father, a former professional player. I competed in local tournaments, the Bogotá league, and eventually played in the second division for a professional team from my city. I’ve also played in the U.S. and France, gaining experience across futsal, turf, and full-field formats. As an NFHS-certified coach, I currently lead futsal training in Beaverton for players ages 5 to 18. My coaching style focuses on proper technique, game intelligence, discipline, and adapting to various styles of play. Each session includes technical drills, tactical exercises, and small-sided games designed to challenge players and build complete, thoughtful athletes.
