About your golf coach

As an assistant golf professional and an instructor, I'm passionate about helping players of all levels improve their game and achieve their goals. I graduated from the University of Redlands with a degree in Business Administration and am currently on the third and final level of the PGA program. I believe everyone can play golf well with what they have, and we will work together to make your swing work for YOU! I love seeing people improve their swing right in front of my eyes, and I would love to help you lower those scores!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI would start them off with half swings of a high lofted club such as a pitching wedge or a 9 iron. I believe your half swing is the foundation of your full swing. If you can perfect your timing with the half swing, the full swing will be much easier. My priority is to keep your swing connected for as long as possible. My most common drills for this are the ball between arms drill and the club cover under the arm drill.
Lesson 11+Here, we will try to transfer your knowledge to the course. I also give on-course lessons at Oakmont Country Club. We will decipher where swing patterns are breaking down on the course and come up with an action plan from there.
Lesson 4-10In these next lessons we will focus on direction. The most common direction fault I see is coming over the top, so the 45Β° alignment sticks drill will help with rerouting you to the correct swing plane. I will also use video in each lessons to ensure you are understanding the changes.
Lesson 2-3When we can make contact with the half swings, we will then look at how long it lasts in the full swing. Depending on your progress we will continue mostly with arm connection and rotation, but with a longer backswing.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI will start be asking questions on what they shoot. My goal is to get you in an indoor facility with technology to understand your swing numbers and where they are coming from. We will only focus on a couple numbers at a time to avoid overwhelming you. The statistics we look at will depend on your swing tendencies.
Lesson 11+These will include short game and wedges as well as some course simulation. Some lessons will be entirely short game so that you will become more dialed in from 100 yards in. Here, you will have a swing for each wedge distance and will have an easier time committing to those shots on the course. In addition, we will discuss our tendencies under pressure and how to prepare for tournaments.
Lesson 4-10These lessons will depend on your progress with what we are working on. We will continue to check up on your tendencies and here I will start asking you about your strengths and weaknesses during a full round on the course. As we work through these changes, I will begin to look at the parts of your swing that tend to break down under pressure.
Lesson 2-3We will continue to drill your swing corrections based off the numbers we checked at first. Just like beginner players, we will work through these changes with wedges to a 9-iron and in half swings.

Youth players
Working with kidsI try to make things fun for them but also try to start smart practice habits young. One of these is that I will control when they hit their next golf ball so they can reflect on what they did and what to fix for next time. This will help them learn to practice with a purpose.

Working with teenagersTeenagers will start to see distance increase as they are growing. This can sometimes make them want to hit the ball hard instead of focusing on technique, so I will try to instill not only proper technique, but proper habits of practicing on their own. I highly recommend filming practice sessions, because they could think they are making the change but it could not show up on camera.
