About your pickleball coach
The sport of pickleball is growing at an insane rate, come join me and see what the rage is all about! It’s a lot of fun to play and an easy game to pick up quickly. I’m a certified pickleball coach playing at the 4.5 level. In addition to coaching pickleball I have also coached racquetball, travel baseball, softball and small groups for endurance sports training and conditioning for both the young and the not so young. The lesson focused on strategy, footwork, and developing my serve, which I found quite helpful. Alan’s approach makes it easy to stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed, and I appreciate the focus on court positioning. Though I still need to work more on what we went over initially, I look forward to building on those skills. Still, I’d suggest trying Alan if you're interested in thoughtful, practical pickleball guidance.
Beginner training plan
Your first lessonQuick conversation of what you were looking to get out of this initial lesson. We will discuss an assess your sports and athletic background. We will start to play pickleball immediately. If not familiar with the game, we’ll begin to go over many of the basic rules start discussing the general concepts of dinking, serving and begin to work on the various shots throughout a Pickleball game. We will also discuss how to keep score in a game.
Lesson 11+Here we will start to work on more complicated drills to further enhance your game and even more detailed customization of what you need to get to the next level.
Lesson 4-10Here is where we will discuss many more strategies and concepts of the game. We will get deeper into positioning and shot selection. We will then work on a number of drills to get even more comfortable and to start building your skills. I will start customizing the drills to what you specifically need to improve upon and fine-tune.
Lesson 2-3We will finish the discussion on the basic rules of the game. We will work on hand/eye coordination drills. We’ll discuss and work on getting comfortable with the different types of shots (dinking, drives, resets and lobs) to hit in the game of Pickleball. We’ll start a variety of drills to help improve your skills at each of these shots. I will also initiate some concepts of strategy during gameplay. This will allow you to understand the “why“ behind hitting the ball at certain places on the court throughout different stages of the game. We will also start diving deeper into the game itself as well as the do’s and don’ts of serving. We will work on readiness, positioning and shot selection.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAfter discussing your goals, I will assess your skills and work on a customized training plan. We will discuss the areas where you feel you need improvement and start working on the skills to get you there.
Lesson 11+Continue with skill development and dive deeper into game strategy from both mental and physical aspects.
Lesson 4-10We will continue to work on the advanced strategy/skills and vary the drills and improve technique.
Lesson 2-3The customized training plan will continue and evolve and work on higher level strategy and skills.
Youth players
Working with kidsI customize every lesson to the skills, abilities, athleticism and patience of the kids.
Working with teenagersI customize my lessons to fit the athleticism and patience of the teen. Everyone learns at varying rates and I work with that as I lesson plan. I make the lessons to challenge the teens to progress to the next level.
What you need to bringPreferably court sneakers, so you don’t twist an ankle and comfortable clothing suitable for our south Florida climate. Sunscreen and water! Let me know if you need a paddle as I have extras.
What I can bringIf paddles are needed, I can definitely provide them, just ask!
