The lesson with Derek was quite helpful overall, particularly in terms of improving my shot consistency and court awareness. Although I didnā€™t expect everything to turn around instantly, I feel more confident on the court after it. Still, I think a bit more focus on specific drills might help next time. But honestly, Iā€™d suggest giving Derek a try if youā€™re aiming to refine your game gently.

Derek's lesson really emphasized attention and focus on detail, which I found pretty helpful. Though I think the resets and dinking could still use some work, still, he's quite attentive during lessons and minimizes distractions. How it works
Beginner training plan
Your first lessonAll lessons are customized to fit your progression and skill level but in general, in our first lesson, we will follow my time-tested beginner curriculum, customized to your skill and previous knowledge. We will practice hitting at the net, serves and returns to understand the basic hits, move onto a court diagram where we will go over rules, scoring, and basic strategy. Then we will implement them in a mini game at the net to go over any and all questions about scoring and rules, followed by a full game to practice everything we learned.
Lesson 11+In later series of lessons, we will work on the nuances of the game, focusing on what you in particular need to work on from my own diagnostics as well as from your experiences out on your own in games!
Lesson 4-10Once we feel more confident and are hitting our basic shots consistently, we will add in more difficult shots like the drop shot, defending sped ups, and volleys.
Lesson 2-3The next series of lessons will focus on form and gaining confidence hitting a variety of shots with consistency and a high margin for error.
What you need to bringAthletic shoes, ideally court shoes (e.g., tennis, basketball, volleyball) Paddle, if you have one Water Hat Sunscreen (I do bring extra if you need)
What I can bringI have extra paddles, a caddy full of balls, and cones. My pickleball tube will help us pick up balls after drills getting us to the next drill sooner. If court availability is an issue, I have a portable net as well.
