About your pickleball coach

With over three decades of experience as a military trainer, soccer coach, graduate marketing professor, and now an IPTPA coach/trainer, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our coaching sessions. While I'm a 4.0-rated player, that is not what makes me a good coach. Playing the game at a high level and coaching others require different skills. Coaching goes beyond following proven techniques and passing exams. It is about connecting with my students and tailoring lessons to their unique needs and skill levels. I understand that each player has their makeup and learning style, and I am skilled at adapting my coaching methods to ensure maximum progress and fulfillment. As your pickleball coach, I am focused on enhancing your skills and serving as a motivator and a dedicated instructor for your safety. While pickleball is an exciting game, it has seen increased injuries due to players not fully understanding its nuances. I will guide you in playing safely and provide the necessary knowledge to prevent injuries, allowing you to enjoy the game fully without compromising your well-being.

I am a marshall arts pro who’s had multiple injuries and surgeries. My wife is a tennis pro who encouraged me to start playing Pickleball which his less punishing on your body. She also recommended that I use ZEV ASCH because of his extensive coaching experience and focus on learning how to play the game but in a way to prevent injuries. I am super competitive and was ready to go out and win. Within the first 30 minutes, Zev was able, in in calm but confident manner, to https://tmtl.ink/NewProReviewsForm me the fundamentals and we spend the rest of the hour simulating a singles game. Here, he wasn’t afraid to tell me to slow down, focus and not go after winner “that will come after you learn to control you shots and learn about strategy.” I’ve had two lessons so far and each lesson is 100% better than the former. If you want someone to will pay attention to who you are and what you can or can’t do, use Zev.

I am pretty athletic and was eager to just go out and hit the ball. Zev calmed and slowed me down by focusing on the fundamentals so I don't have to break bad habits later. He's a big believer in coaching while you play. We didn't spend an hour drilling, we worked on a skill, played a game, corrected it and move on. This is more effective and fun. I highly recommend Zev if you're a beginner of if you played racket sports before. He is focused, patient and funny.

And your review: I am retired and wanted to learn Pickleball. I was apprehseive because I am not athletic or played any racket sport before. I took a few lessons but the trainer moved too fast for me, then I met Zev on a recommendation. He is not only skilled but a true professional - he made me comfortable, focused on my safety and was very patient - he made learning fun and it was effective, I am able to now play and enjoy the game. Highly recommended.

I haven't played any sports nor am I athletic . But everyone I know plays the game and Zev was recommended to me. He made me comfortable right away and he is focused on safety first - not making stupid mistakes that can lead to an injury. Zev is patient and I was impressed how he quickly adjusted his coaching to what I could do. If you want to learn how to pay the game the right way, give Zev a try, he's amazing.

Many times people start playing a sport without knowing the proper way to do things and bad habits develop and persist. For years my backhand was a weak point. After one lesson with Zev correcting a basic flaw, my backhand has become a strength. The people I play with can't believe the transformation. Now it's on to correcting other aspects of my game!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIf you’re new to pickleball (never took a lesson) we spend time talking about the game, the court’s layout, safety tips to ensure you don’t get hurt (like NEVER go backward to return a high-flying ball) We then go over your paddle construction, covering the sweet spot, how to hold a paddle, and the critical aspect of grip strength, depending on where you are on the court. We start with a simple exercise where you bounce the ball in front of you, controlling the bounce and your balance. As you get comfortable, you walk around while bouncing. This is a great exercise and warm-up to get the ‘feel’ for how the paddle and ball interact. Next, we move to the court and the No Valley Zone (Kitchen). We cover the fundamentals of dinking and begin to work on how to dink across from each other. Next, you’ll take a few steps back (to the midpoint of the ‘transition zone’ (the area between the kitchen and the baseline) and we work on getting the ball over the net from a distance… We end with you standing behind the baseline and learning how to volley long balls across and diagonally to the other side of the court. We end with the two ways to serve and test which one is best for you. You’ll serve from both sides of the court…

What you need to bring Court shoes (tennis) not running sneakers. Hat. Water. Sunscreen.

What I can bringPaddles and balls.
